Nope! Peruvian. Taters are from South America. As are tomatoes which makes the ketchup that goes on the fries and pumpkins that the Bishop Ford school kids drop off the Prospect Expressway overpass on PPW.

Sorry, that's like saying marinara sauce is Peruvian. I don't think the Incas (or whatever, I'm not an anthropologist) were deep-frying their blue spuds, putting them in cones and dunking them in mayonnaise.

I do believe, however, that they climbed to the top of Andean passes to drop massive pumpkins on the heads of their enemies.

Flexi mentioned fries not belgian style specifically. I believe Incas were frying their taters. Remember, and this is true, Europeans liked to take credit for other's inventions. I believe Incas made a tomato sauce as well. The tomato plant was regarded as poison by the first Euro's because it's related to the same family as tobacco. And pasta, strictly Chinese. Get my drift?

I have a question Flexi: do you do anything else for fitness apart from yoga? I ask because I run, go to spinning classes and do pilates, as well as yoga. But I actually hate running, spinning and pilates. Life's a bit short to devote regular time to things you hate. I'm wondering if just doing yoga (and walking my dog) will be enough to stay fit in the future....
Flexi may assault me for this, but yoga's not going to do much for you cardio-wise. Not to knock its other benefits: mental, flexibility... um, the healthful purging of bodily gases...

If you're walking your dog a lot, that's one thing, but I'm a big believer that there's no substitute for vigorous (i.e., breaking a sweat) aerobic exercise regularly (at least every other day for half an hour or something). But then, I'm crazy: I like running.

Do you like real (non-spinning) cycling? (I think working out on those godawful indoor machines has done more than anything else to make people hate exercise.) Swimming? Anything involving moving fast?
I spent years and years running. I ran competitively from the age of 10 or 11. I've had enough! I'm not into cycling at all either. Anyway, doctors say that brisk walking is enough to keep your heart healthy, and that's all I'm interested in. I don't have weight/fat to lose: I'm merely trying to keep things ticking over. The one other thing I do quite like is kickboxing. However, I don't really want to join any of the gyms around here and I don't know how else I'd find a kickboxing class. Maybe I'll try tae kwon do or aikido instead. Any recs?

Throw a pumpkin at a car and run like hell when the guy gets out of the car.

my Inca ass grew up in Ecuador eating "papas fritas" with Mayonnaise.

I think that one is multi-cultural even to this day :P
  • Precious Williams wrote: Anyway, doctors say that brisk walking is enough to keep your heart healthy, and that's all I'm interested in.
If it's brisk enough to raise your heart rate sufficiently, and if you do it at least 30 minutes 4 days a week, you're probably OK. There's not a universal medical consensus: a year or two ago, I recall reading a study that said you needed to do more like the equivalent of 30 mins of aerobic workout every day.

Bottom line, it's what you make your heart do, not how you make it do it.
  • Livetotravel wrote: Buttock adoration was also an Incan tradition :)
the Incas irrefutably invented the "nalgas"
and these you could coat with ketchup, mayo or whatever you wish...

This whole thread typifies the devolution of this board. People talking ad nauseum about boring aspects of themselves. Flexichick, ok, you must be really hot. Can we move on now?

    Sorry.

Bring on the slings and arrows.

    Germfree -

If you see a thread called "Flexi's avatar", and you're not interested, don't read it. It's that simple.

I didn't start the thread, but I do think it's funny that instead of addressing the person who started it (not that I am trying to "drag" StreetShooter into this) or any of the others who made comments on it, you only address me.

I'm not going to take the bait.

    "Sorry".

p.s. a big thank you to those who (publicly and via PM) have told me they welcome me and my contributions to this board. Y'all know who you are :D

    There was no baiting.

How can I know whether a topic may be interesting without reading on?

My observation was general (you were not even the instigator of the thread): there seems to be a preponderence of private conversations regarding people's physical attributes, et al. Folks tooting their own horns (not even tongue-in-cheek, what's more) is just not amusing or interesting, methinks.
  • Your observation may have been general, but your comments were specifically about me.
  • Flexichick wrote: Your observation may have been general, but your comments were specifically about me.
    Ok, Ok. How about this:

I found it odd that Street Shooter found the subject thread-worthy.

I was creeped out by some of the comments it generated - "hot", "submissive and powerful."

I found your reaction - "aw, chucks guys," or something to that effect - downright alarming.

I'm done. Now can we get back to who is and isn't getting dates in Park Slope, and why?
  • Let's talk specifically about you, then. Are YOU getting dates?
  • Flexichick wrote: Let's talk specifically about you, then. Are YOU getting dates?
I can't tell if you are serious or not, so I'll just say, YAWN.

In the nicest possible way (as Dame Edna Everage would say), of course.

For, apart from you, who would give a rat's arse about the answer?
  • I wasn't. That's what the laughing face is for. The answer, I'd guess is nobody (including me).
  • Oh, how amusing, then. And getting the dig in there was nice also.

Anyway, back on topic, my favourite avatars are those of Mean DooD.
  • I'll trade three Wi-Fi avs, two quijibo avs, one duck egg and a gold ignot for one Flexi av.

germfree - your attitude and avatar frankly creep me out. But thanks for your unsolicited input on my comment. You may be interested to know that those two ultimate ying/yang expressions are basic to Taijiquan and Qigong.
