Here's how it is. If you like to run, and you like to drink, and you like to socialize, and you're not an ass, you show up on Saturday for the Brooklyn Hash House Harriers Annual General Meeting. If you really like the drinking and socializing, you show up on Friday night for the 1st Annual Piss-Up as well.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, see below. If that still doesn't get it done for you, please respond to the thread with any questions. Otherwise here are the start locations.

3 PM - Saturday, September 16th, The Main Event
BH3 AGM Hash
Start Location: Grand Army Plaza subway stop on the 2/3 line.

6 PM - Friday, September 15th
BH3 AGM Pre-Event Piss-Up
Location: Gowanus Yacht Club

Who are the Brooklyn Hash House Harriers?
A group of runners who meet at a predetermined location on the Borough of Brooklyn. They are part of a loosely organized worldwide network of hashes. Some people run fast, others run slow. It all depends on your ability.

What do they do?
A member of the group (the hare) presets a trail using a system of chalk and flour marks along the way. The rest of the group tries to follow the trail, and if all goes well, they end up at a drinking establishment, have some refreshing beverages, and a bite to eat. Trails are usually between 3 and 5 miles and the hare will bring your bag to the bar. Rain or Shine.

Where are the hashes?
Anywhere in Brooklyn. The pack never knows where a trail will go or where it may lead. Hashers may run through streets, back alleyways, parks, whatever. No matter what, at trail's end it's still a party.

Why?
You enjoy a good run (or walk), a nice cold beer, and the company of likeminded others.

What's this about an AGM?
It's our big hoo-hah, one of the biggest events on the hash calendar. We drink a little more, hand out some coveted awards, and announce who will
mismanage our intrepid group for the next year. Mostly, we drink a little more. If you have never hashed before, this is a great time to get to know us as it is phenomenally attended and sort of well planned.

  • I'm seriously considering this. But I'll be a lot better at the drinking than the running.

Hahaha, I'm the opposite, better at the running, but it does sound appealing. So, what happens if people get lost on the run, how do they know where to go to get their drink on?
  • I'm sure you'll both do fine and I hope a lot of DSers and DHers come. As for what happens if you get lost, and I doubt you will, there is a phone # you can call which will list the bar, 212-HASHNYC and the name of said bar is written on the sidewalk at the start. We haven't lost anyone...today.
  • I can't go. Plans came up with my daughter. Sounded like fun though, keep me informed on the next one, sooner or later I'll have a clear dance card.
  • I think it sounds fun, but was away this weekend. How did it go?
