$9 bucks huh? Does that include the shoe rental?
If it did include shoe rental then that's a great deal if not, then it's only about a buck or two off. I usually pay $5-7. But they should have days that you bowl for cheap, que no? I mean back in my home town they do 2-for-1 nights of 1/2 off nights.
And no, knowing this does not mean I'm a good bowler. In fact I'm totally a grandma bowler. You guys would all laugh at my lack of technique.
Right BG? -
I like the Port Authority lanes. That was my H.S. bowling team's home lanes before we switched to Bowl-Mor (this was back when Union Square was dirty and unsavory and before Bowl-Mor went all black light and hipster).
Pitu next. -
right you are
On the way to upstate weekends, I used to meet my friend for cocktails at the Port Authority bar behind the lanes . . . dark . . .
I didn't think it was still there.
Pretty sure the lanes in Sunset Park on Fifth Ave just past Greenwood are still operative.
Not that I want to go bowling.

It's not about the bowling itself. It's about the beers, hot dogs and shit talkin' that inevitably occurs. Le sigh, ze memories....

more importantly, while looking up something I don't play, I found noodles.OUTER BOROUGHS: Yunnan Discovery in Sunset Park's Chinatown
hohum, it's off that Chow thing you hate so much . . .
Yunnan Flavour, a noodle joint in Sunset Park’s Chinatown, is introducing New York hounds to the robustly seasoned food of an isolated southwestern province in China.
A noodle joint in Sunset Park’s Chinatown is introducing New York hounds to the robustly seasoned food of Yunnan. The specialty at Yunnan Flavour Snack Shop, run by an engaging couple from Kunming, is rice noodles in spicy, meaty broths. The noodles are extraordinary—tender, springy, pulled by hand, “the best f*ing rice noodles ever,†declares noooodles. Their broth is beautifully deep—rich, nuanced, and full of chiles, scallions, and preserved vegetables. Options include beef stew, pork stew, spicy meat sauce, and “crispy meat sauce,†a rustic brew featuring sliced intestine and something akin to cracklings.

....yeah, let's get back to bowling - so, are we pretty much decided on Bowlmor? When are we going? A weeknight?
Q? -
the port authority lanes freak me out - the bar is basically an illegal sports book. I wandered in there b/c I was early for a party and this scary dude bought me a drink.
why do you like that place so much, carnivore? -
Memories. I actually like the idea of a Sunset Park combined noodles and bowling outing, but Bowl-Mor would be good too.
What do you say, WhyFi? Could you be lured to Sunset Park? -
Yeah, I could be - never been, so I'm up for something new!
