Finding a room in bedstuy... — Brooklynian

Finding a room in bedstuy...

Hey peeps
I recently moved into bedstuy (lafayette/bedford) and I love it- I have a friend who is looking into moving to the hood but I dont know how he should go about looking for a place. CL seems lacking for apts in this area, is there anywhere that has a room-mate posting board? What about around pratt? I know most of the time you have to be a student to get into buildings and stuff....

anyone?

  • This won't be a big help but yeah, there are always listings and flyers around Pratt. There's a big bulletin board outside the art supply store on DeKalb bet. Washington and St. James/Hall St. There's also a bulletin board at the Bergen Bagels on Hall St. and Myrtle (next to the Associated).
  • Subject: there is a room for rent posted

on the front door of the Met supermarket on Fulton and St. James. just saw it on the evening of Sept. 12.
  • Can't even afford to live their anymore. All these parasites coming into
the neighborhood from Manhattan (*and wherever else). They're so used
to paying exorbitant rents that they THINK paying 800-1000 a month is a
    good thing

But all they are doing is driving up the price of renting for the people
who are already there. Thanks alot
  • Umm..thanks?

  • Believe me, I do NOT want to pay $800-1000. And I don't think it's reasonable, either.

But I bet that you like the brownstone bookstore, breadstuy, and the other places that opened up for the people who will now do business there.

Parasite is the wrong word to use, if you are describing people who pay 'exorbitant' rent....parasite is better used to describe a creature that takes without giving, rather than giving too much.

    this is some weak hate.

If you're gonna hate on gentrifiers, you're gonna have to bring it harder than that. We've seen worse on these here boards.

That is because I am not hating on them. That's not my thing
I don't care about "gentrifiers" I care about the price of an average
1 BDR apt going from 500 a month to 1000 a month in less than 10
    years

the rest of that stuff you poppin is bs. It don't matter where the
people are coming from. The bottom line is that they are coming

and to that poster talking about shops (more bs), there were
plenty of shops/boutiques opened here before. Plenty. There
are also plenty of neighborhood people who would like to do
that sort of thing as well. You see allthose vendors on the street?
They are on a sidewalk in most cases because the rent is too
    high on commercial properties

You ever see the brother on Atlantic and Brooklyn Ave? He
started out as a vendor on that CORNER when nothing was there.
I know dozens of people like that.

So why move there and pay it then?? I've been living on Kosciusko
since 1999, but was FORCED to move (by a new home owner from
guess where, who decided to renovate and screwed up the foundation
of both of our houses) and now I cannot find an apt unless I pay
double the $520 a month I was paying before
