  • I'm not sure we can assume that, but it's a good guess from the graphic design as well as the name.

Are there really enough kids here to support such a store? I'm not sure the parents of PH are willing to pay PS kids boutique prices. Not when Target, Old Navy and Marshalls are down the street.

But maybe that will help us justify the occasional boutique item (well, I usually buy $2.50 t-shirts at Old Navy, so I can afford a $40 dress...)

Maybe it will be for people who don't have kids, but buy presents for people who do. They surely spend more meny per item than actual parents.
  • It could be some kind of retro clothing store... or a music shop maybe? :-k

    I know that's wishful thinking, but I can dream, can't I? [-o<
  • I googled and found a few European kids clothing/products companies whose stuff will be carried at Courduroy Kids...

Sorry to the non-kid-havin' folks who contribute voraciously to the anti-tykes PH board strings, but it looks like more gentronification tot-style!
  • You people on here crack me up. You literally want to have your cake and eat it, but nobody else can have theirs.
So people of PH aren't ready to pay PS kids boutique prices? Gimme a break! We're more than ready, and already are paying PS prices for everything from coffee to restaurants to boutiques, but no one complains about these newcomers, and whether the people of PH "can afford" them.
Is it the possibility of kids in PH that bothers, you or the possibility of a store catering to kids in PH that bothers you?
Either way I miss the 50 cent cup of Bustelo, but I don't think the kids are to blame.

I'm not sure who you're venting about. No one was complaining about the store . Medusa said she thought the prices might be too high, but she is a parent, and was talking about what she as a parent would be willing to pay. Maybe you need to take a look at your own assumptions about your neighbors who post here.
  • It is a kid's clothing store, opening: I know not when. Look at it this way, for your nicer things, you can shop here, for your everyday play clothes, Old Navy is right around the corner. What's wrong with having a choice? I think new stores/restaurants add value to Vanderbilt and PH in general, and welcome every single one, whether I shop there or not. I have no kids, but I do have a toddler niece and friends with kids to shop for.
  • I dn't mean to imply that I'm somehow against this new store. I'm just a little surprised that the owners think there's enough business here. I'm sure I'll check it out and maybe even buy stuff. I hope they have nice stuff and that they do well.
  • You may not realize how many new people are in the neighborhood, or how many visit it. PH has really, really grown since last year! And there are so many children here now and also on the way. :)

It's true. I was sitting at Joyce this morning and saw several strollers. And I, myself, have another on the way. So that will at least make one more. (God willing) :D

    Yeah!!! Mini-DH'ers represent!!!!
  • When I moved into my 20-unit building 2 1/2 years ago there were only my two kids. Since then, two more have been born to building residents, three others have moved in and there are currently at least three more on their way soon.

So, by my three-year anniversary in PH next March, the tot population of my building alone will have increased by at least 400% while the adult demographics have remained the same.
  • I ran into the owner of Fabrica at the food co-op today and confirmed that she is one of the owners of Courduroy Kid (the asthetics seemed similar, so I had wondered...). She said they're having a party on Saturday (Rosh Hashanah, for some) and then really opening.

Having the converstion, and because she's so nice, has already made me decide to sheop there for a dress for my daughter for an upcoming wedding. So much for my allegiance to Old Navy's cheap prices.

My last purchase from Fabrica (two of those leather cubes) continue to please.

Does Fabrica really have normal hours? are their prices good? I always think of going in but am terrified of falling in love with something I can't afford. obviously they're not ikea, so I'm not hoping for $3 curtains.

oh, they have some bee-you-ti-ful things in that store. i wouldn't say their prices seemed that unreasonable to me, just more high-end than fits my budget.
  • Fabrica is by no means cheap, but the mid century furniture is priced much more competitively than other (similar) stores in the Slope, Dumbo, etc. In fact, aside from ebay and Craig's List, she's got the best prices I've seen on the stuff. And everything is so well edited... she's got great taste.
  • I didn't look at all that much in the store (I was fixated on those cubes), but my impression was similar -- that prices were not inappropriate, but not chump change.

The owner (Demi?) is very nice and also has an interior design business which I find tantalizing. If I win the lottery... (which is unlikely, as I do ot play).
  • According to a postcard,
