Any way we can hear more about this guy, and any followup, rather than all this nonsense about who moved into the neighborhood when and who's a racist and who's a hipster and who's got something to prove that nobody else gives a damn about?
Thank you! That's exactly what I was going to say.

I agree. My boyfriend moved into 201 Eastern Parkway in 1970, and it was Prospect Heights then.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with books. Anyway, don't books=nerds, not hipsters?

Actually, it's the hipster nerds you got to watch out for.

    First of all...

Don't think you're the only one with cops in your family. It doesn't make you an expert. And I think she needs to talk to the guy who writes up crime stats for Pct 88, because she is more or less contradicted HERE. You may want to check out the stats on Pcts 77 and 78 as well.

And as for me, I grew up in East Flatbush, a mostly black community, and have never had a problem. Neither has my father, who is white. Just don't generalize. I can definately show you some predominately white neighborhoods in Long Island that I don't want to have any part of. Ever heard of Mastic Beach??

  • not that to i want to get involved with nuts fighting over crazy stuff on this site but i just happen upon it and see someone wrote that 201 eastern parkway is in a neihborhood called prospect heights. however, 201 eastern parkway must be near the beginning of eastern parkway i believe near washington ave on (i think) the east side of the park. the neihborhood is called crown heights always has as far as i know. just wanted to point it out. i was reading all posts i think prospect heights is a name that was once given to the area probably 100 years ago and maybe people new to the area started using it again when they moved in after the crack epidemic put "crown heights" on the map? lol just my opinion. Thank you thank you.......

  • I split this topic. So now this thread can go back to talking about Keith and how to identify him.
  • I know how to identify him. Make it clear to everyone that the next person who sees him should use their cellphone to call 911 and report a "suspicious person", giving a thorough description - including clothing - instead of taking a picture and posting it. There is no harm in calling 911 on someone who makes you feel uncomfortable by asking for money, talking to you when you've already told them you're not looking for new friends (haha) or some other aggressive annoying behavior. Contrary to popular belief, the police officers will make the right decision as whether he or she is breaking any law. Call them and let them decide. It's the only way to get rid of these annoying bastards. Now my next question, EmilyM, I'm thinking I know the guy in your "profile pic", however, if it's you, I'm incorrect. I'm pretty sure I know who he is though. What's up with the pic? Thank you.
  • Subject: aggressive even during the day!

Interesting to find these posts. I encountered this guy on Friday afternoon! Bright, sunny day. Right outside of Tavern on Dean. Plently of people out and about. He was walking a bike. BIG dude, wearing sweat pants and sweat shirt. Physically very intimidating, and I'm not a small guy, and I was walking a pretty serious looking dog.
He came dropped his bike and came right up into my face. He introduced himself to me as "Keith." Got a bad feeling from him right away and quickly walked away. My dog did not seem to intimidate him at all. As I walked away from him, he started shouting obsenities at me.
As I turned the corner I looked abck and he was on Underhill walking along some other surprised pedestrian.
This guy has a seriously strange vibe. Keep your eyes open even during the day.
I wish I had read these posts before, I would have called 911 asap!

Um, definitely not me, as I am female. It's a Fox 5 reporter who got a chunk of metal hurled at him by an irate NYC Councilmember whose alleged crimes his was reporting on...from in front of the guy's house. (The Councilmember is in the background in the red jacket, winding up for the throw.) Although probably no one remembers the Daily Shows episode where Jon Stewart ran and reran and reran the clip anymore, it still amuses me as it seems to epitomize the rough and tumble of NY life.
  • All of these descriptions sound like the Keith I encountered.
I saw him on Friday night, and he was wearing the same clothes as the previous post states (sweat pants and sweat shirt). Plus, he was walking a bicycle.
I think I saw him walking up Vanderbuilt today. Wearing a terry cloth bath robe (it was actually pretty funny in that "I'm insane" kind of way). Strangely, he wasn't bothering anyone. He is quite big, and gives off a pretty scary vibe. He does have an unkept beard as well, and If I do remember correctly, he walks with a slight limp.
I wouldn't hesitate AT ALL to call 911 if he bothers you. In fact, this is what the police told me to do if he ever bothers me again. It may seem insignificant, but the sooner he is caught just being a nuisance, the more likely it stops him from doing something more serious.
  • This guy sounds like someone I had a run-in with once. It was very late - maybe 4am on a Friday night, I had stopped at the 24 hour grocery store on Flatbush before heading home (to Eastern Pkwy/Underhill), when a guy matching this description stepped up to me like he knew me, but really agressively. I was irritated at being panhandled and equally as agressively responded to him. He gave me a super intense stare - during which I now think he was trying figuring out whether I was a good mark - but I returned his gaze just as strongly and he muttered something and moved on. Later I thought about it and thought maybe he wasn't just a panhandler. In other situations like that I might have showed a little bit more fear - just instinctually - but for whatever reason I didn't that night and I think that's what made him have second thoughts about whatever he thought about doing. I'm a fairly big guy myself but I'm not necessarily liking my odds at 4am by myself.
  • I too have run into this guy. It was a while ago but i remeber it vividly. I was walking to the Q and he waved to me and stopped me because he thought I was "someone he knew" - like a support group leader...or some BS. So he went on and on - I told him I had nothing to give him and he said "well, we could goto the ATM and you could take out some money" - thats when I turned on the charm "Look, Im just going to my friends house, I didnt bring anything with me but my keys and my metrocard."

He bought it and I made it past the troll without giving him shit.

Since he was lying to me - I had no issue lying to him. Esp if it makes him go away.

LOL oh no wonder i thought he looked familiar I've probably seen him reporting on television or maybe saw the Daily Show clips! I knew "Emily" wouldn't be a male, but then again these days you never know that's why I asked. Funny though if I were a criminal and I saw that guy coming at me, I'd run my ass off because he looks like a classic nypd detective no? haha Thanks for the response....

That was an unwarranted shot at Mastic Beach outta the blue. I was an EMT back in '96 when TWA 800 crashed. Stayed out there for 3 days and the people seemed very nice and helpful and couldn't do enough to help the rescue workers. There's some rude people on this site.
  • Ran into Keith last night on the way home from Mooney's. It was pretty funny, but I doubt that I'll be able to convey that in my present condition.

I first saw him crossing the street with another guy at Vanderbilt and Park. He turned around and called after me after, evidently, being rebuffed by the other gentleman. I turned and acknowledged him, slowing my pace slightly- I was tipsy enough to be curious and, well, not quite fearless, but certainly not in the least bit intimidated.

I was first struck with his size. No, not that he was that large, but that I was certainly looking down at him slightly- if I had more hair, I'd be 6' tall, so I have to disagree with the reports of him being 6'1", I'd say 5'11" is fair, if not generous. He was wearing a rather nice leather jacket, but I could see that he was of a medium/heavy build- 200lbs? Maybe.

I wasn't sure that this was really Keith, but that was dispelled when he introduced himself with a handshake. By this time I found it surreal, and I wouldn't be surprised if my internal giggling translated into an external smirk.

'people just don't understand... I'm out here just tryin' to survive... I'm out here beggin'...'

We walked side-by-side along Park approaching Underhill. He proceeded to tell me about his stint in jail, and about the circumstances surrounding his incarceration. He said something about beating up a guy; Keith suspected that this guy had stolen something of his. As he was relating this, I wondered if his storytelling was meant to intimidate- as if foreshadowing the violence to come. Most likely. Didn't work. I surprised myself with the how sincere I sounded when I said, 'Sorry Keith. I'd love to help you out, but I ain't got shit.' He slipped away without another word- I was actually surprised at how suddenly I found myself alone on the block.
  • Just want everybody to know that the person you all are discussing was shot dead tonight at the corner of Underhill Ave. and Topez Pl. He was actually one of 9 people shot. It will be all over the news tomorrow as there was every news truck out there. WABC, WNBC, WCBS, NY1, WB11, etc. Sad day.

[MOD daveb]This post is apparantly not even remotely close to being true. You can take off the helmet and UNLOCK YOU DOORS. Thanks.[/MOD NOTE]
  • Mods. Methinks that since the previous post has been determined to be 100% fact free, could it be deleted? Or at least sent to the corner of Topez and Underhill?

Oh my god. Lock you doors.
  • Cancel my previous post. It was just a disorderly group job that the cops were on. When a police officer on the scene refused to tell me what was going on, I hastily drew my own conclusion. I added the news van part to make it more believeable as I was afraid people would not believe that I knew what happened. Sorry! Carry on.... :-)

So you lied about news coverage because you didn't want people to think that you were lying about the non-event which you were, in fact, lying about?

    Are you for real?

I had the same incident with Keith last year, and he gave the same story. I was walking home after getting off the B train, was on Park between Vanderbilt and Underhill when he came along the opposite way on his bike. He stopped abruptly, almost tripped and fell getting off the bike to approach me. He talked and talked and talked, but in the end, he and I walked away from each other, no money exchanged.
