D'amico coffee — Brooklynian

D'amico coffee

Subject: D'amico coffee

hey all, has anyone bought fresh-roasted coffee beans from D'amico? i am pretty much a coffeefreak and am constantly experimenting with different beans. i love everything from SBux' Yukon blend to the fairtrade, organic stuff from Park Health over on Union and Court. Gorilla is rad - i think they roast their own. I know Sahidi's way up on Atlantic roasts their own, too, but i havent tried theirs. anyhow, im on court near CVS here so i'd like to start getting the freshly roasted goodies right there at D'amico's but i never seem to make it. anyhow, lemme know what you think. thanks.

I've been buying coffee from D'Amico's for at least a dozen years. It's the unchallenged Citadel of Caffeine, with a breathtaking array of wall-mounted bean-barrels from all over the world. For coffee achievers in Cobble Hill (and anywhere else, as far as I'm concerned), no place can top it. I've always considered their little plastic shopping bags to be such a totem of Brooklyn pride, I'm surprised Marty Markowitz hasn't made it a mission to personally promote them.
  • alright, sounds like i gotta schedule a little trip to Damico then. thanks. btw, you have a recommendation for their individual roasts? i used to drink solely french roast, no matter the roaster. nowadays however, i like to vary it up.
  • I love D'Amico coffee- I like the Red Hook blend because it's really dark and strong (also I make lame jokes about the different blends and they are polite enough to laugh at my stupid jokes. Ex: "The Red Hook blend - do you have to take the bus to get it?" or "The Cobble Hill blend - does that cost $2600?")
I like Sahadi's coffee too - I get the house blend.

As a chils I would pass D'Amico's while they were roasting coffee. The smell permeated the entire neighborhood. It was a family grocery store where you ran a tab until your next paychech whereby Frank or Al would cash the check for you removing your debt to the store. Beside the neighborhood's best coffee, he made a fresh roast beef everyday which led to one great sandwich!. If the family didn't own the real estate, high rents would have driven them out of business years ago.
