medgar evers — Brooklynian

medgar evers

Does anyone have experience with Medgar Evers College? I'm thinking of working there (evenings) and wonder about the safety. Also any other comments on the place appreciated. Thanks.

  • i have always wanted to know: does medgar evers have a student/community radio station and do they need volunteers?

    I believe they do.

  • I live right around the corner from the college and have never had any real issues. The police precinct building is right on the corner of Franklin. Carroll is a nice block to travel and there are usually alot of people around.
I can only parrot what other people on this board have said: walk around the area and see how it feels. It's a personal decision. Welcome to the community.

first: sorry to briefly sideline your thread like that... but do so again... i realize wnye is technically medgar evers, but do they have a real student run station, like a classic "um um dead air um" radio station?

First thing you should know is that Medgar Evers is a college named after a person called Medgar Evers - proper noun!

Ok, you did cap the name in the body of your text, but you did not cap it in the headline

Medgar Evers College does have a radio station. it currently shares transmission with Kingsboro College on WYNE and also transmits on BCAT. If you are interested in finding out more about the Medgar Evers TV and Radio Studio call 718.270.4866
@bobbybrummel - volunteers are always welcome.
@meowmix - the College, its academic atmosphere and recent expansion all contribute in making the neighborhood safer and very attractive relocators. of course the botanical gardens and museum are a +
  • I live around the corner as well... The area is certainly safe, if not a bit dull. I've worked for CUNY in the past and they do treat their employees well. The pay is not always the best but the benefits are certainly good.

I am considering moving across the street from Medgar Evers College, and was wondering which subway provided the safest walk home at night. Would it be safer to walk from the 2/3 on Franklin, or the Q at Prospect Park? It all seems so deserted, and I know things can change from block to block.

    Thanks.

Maybe Meowmix was having an e.e. cummings moment.

I live in Crown Heights South and use the Prospect Park, Franklin, AND President Street stations depending on the day of the week and where I'm going. Based on what I've heard and read on this board (not from personal experience), I tend to avoid approaching the Franklin stop from the South, especially at night.

I vote for the Q/B at Prospect Park. I think you'll find that the walk is just fine, though it may seem pretty desolate and intimidating at first. Walking down Bedford to Empire and then on to Flatbush you'll pass Rite Aid, KFC, Western Beef, McDonalds, Popeyes, and Wendy's. It' not very pretty, but there is a lot of activity in those parts any time of the day or night. Also, despite appearances from afar, Ebbets Field is normally pretty calm. If I lived a bit closer to the Prospect Park stop, or a bit further from the President Street stop, I would probably use it fairly exclusively. The B is a great train, but it only runs on weekdays.
