coffee shop on washington? not the one previously discussed

I hear that the super pretty space on the east side of washington and st. marks across from gen MAY be opening as a coffee shop. I, for one, am VERY psyched. hopefully, this will pan out sooner than the almost open coffee shop nearer to prospect that has been "about" to open for well over a year. who, aside from me, plans to frequent the joint, should it actually pan out?

  • I'm sure I'll plunk down a few $1.25es... Dedicated coffee house can only help that corner... moreover, I think that the corner is ready for it...

Edit - Ahem... for the border sticklers - and you know who you are - this will be a nice addition to Crown Heights...
  • well, after PILES of 1 euro espressos in paris and madrid, I'd love to have a few here. of course, I was drinking them on every third street corner to keep warm.

in any case, I'd love a place to curl up, read a book, and nurse a tea and muffin. um. less than 2 minutes walk from my house. :)
  • It would be nice if I could get a good shot someplace close... then I wouldn't have to think about droppin' a couple on an espresso machine!
  • Oooh, that's only a couple of blocks from my place -- I'd *totally* support a coffee shop there as long as they have good joe. Honestly, I'd probably still support it occasionally even if the coffee is mediocre, if it's run by nice people.
  • I'd go if the coffee is good.
  • i'd go if it were a hidden treasure right in our culture-rich back yard.
  • ah, I'd definitely support it -- it's probably about the same distance from me as saje, so i'd distribute my business equally : )

p.s. even for the border sticklers, isnt washington prospect heights? i think, once past that, it's CH.
  • i totally support a coffee shop.
  • Alafairnadia,

Would you happen to know the street address...?
I want to search the NYC DOB website for any construction permits that may be in progress.

That would be a sure way to find out.

Why would that be the case without the reverse (WA is CH, but beyond (west) is PH) being true? That's an awfully insular view!

I'm poking fun at those that enthusiastically defend the borders of their nabe. 'specially in PH, they're eager to disavow things on the other side of the border, unless, of course, it's a great place to eat, drink, hang; in that case, they have no problem claiming it. Likewise, they're not very tolerant of 'us' claiming that Tom's is a CH establishment, etc. In any event, I'm just promoting a little nabe pride. Where I come from (), there's quite the rivalry between sister (Twin) cities, and it's fun to argue the virtues of your home turf with someone from the 'other' side.

Haha ah, I understand. I'm actually in CH, and claim it as CH, but I felt that like once crossed over Washington was CH... to me it was just like, you could see the change as you came down to classon, franklin, etc. but i get your drift ;D

  • this has all been hashed out in other threads. I think the leading thoughts on this among non real estate professionals is that the west side of washington is PH and the east side of washington is CH. but, like many of you, while I *know* this, I don't really think about it. I mean, the person who got me to move to PH actually lived on prospect between grand and classon and I always thought of her as living in PH, as do I think of most folks living west of classon that I know. of course, I also subjectively think of areas around dean and pacific as really far away and totally not PH, even though I know they are. I mean, Freddy's, to me, is in west bumblefuck.
probably I just like to think of anyplace I like or want to take advantage of as being in my neighborhood.

Doesn't look like anything is in the works "officially"...

Is there a sign up now or did someone hear a rumor?
It is still possible something is in the works...I hope it is.
  • Okay, I'll go everyday to a coffee shop that's around the block, heck, not even around, just like straight down the block, from me. BUT, I have a v large stroller (with the cutest baby in it, though), so let it be said now.
    cheers!
  • Looks like there's coffee shop equipment already in place... a neighborhood RE agent says that it's available and that the gear is part of the rent. Anybody got a business license and coffee beans?
  • Is that the place that also looks there's a pizza oven inside?
  • OMG I envy you people!!!! My nabe was all a-twitter when the Subway opened on Franklin! ](*,)
  • gimme some coffeeeee.
  • i actually just talked to the realtor next door - she has the keys to that place and is working on renting it out. she said there's someone interested that would be opening a restaurant, not just a coffee shop. no more details than that, but something (i hope coffee) is brewing...
  • This would be a welcome addition to Washington Avenue. Any theories on what it might be? I'd love a bistro, or a bar (hint, hint).
  • Bump. Got coffee?
  • There's a block that enters the Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest, Prospect (I believe) between Albany and Troy that claims to be in PH.
  • Superdave wrote: Bump. Got coffee?
Change in plans - this space is the one that's now going to be a Thai restaurant. There IS still work being done on the New World Coffee place down the block, but there's no telling when they'll open... how long does it take to install a sauna?
  • i heard that the place across from crown chicken that used to be a private post office -- the guy that gote wrote up in the times in december -- is going to be a coffee house, too -- corner of prospect and washington.

but then again, i also heard that the boarded up place on park and washington (across from cepeda) was going to be a tequila bar or something.

and i predicted that deacon blue (grand and prospect) would be a big and immediate hit, what with the red walls and everything.
