Maggie Moo's, no headache!

Subject: Maggie Moo's, no headache!

Maybe it's my wonderful personality, but I seem to get some damn good service in Park Slope (the majority of the time). (http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4265&highlight=)

Saturday afternoon it happened again. My gf and I were strolling around 7th ave and saw some employees with clipboards standing outside of Maggie Moo's ice cream. Curious, we slowed our pace and tried to figure out what was going on.
Apparently there was an ice cream eating contest later in the day and they were seeing people to participate. I asked if it was just for kids and they said they actually needed some adults and were having a hard time finding anyone to sign up (it was free).
Despite not having been in any sort of eating contest since I was wee (I used to regularly win the pizza eating contest in the summer festival in my home town), I convinced my gf to sign up with me. We were gonna rock the house!
We had to sign a waver (I think it said we promised not to sue if we got fat or got a wicked ice cream headache, or something along those lines) and then we were all set. They took our names and ph numbers and promised to call us in 2 hours (for the 3pm contest).

We walked around for a bit more and then went home to take a nap (had to rest up, this is important stuff you know). We woke about 10 to 3 and walked back down the block to Moos since we had not been called and it was almost time to kick some ass, Kobayashi style!

We got there with time to spare, but they were taking down a table that appeared to be covered in ice cream! We had missed the contest! They forgot to call us! No biggie, we'll just buy some ice cream anyway, but no, the manager quickly realized the mistake and said he felt REALLY bad and wanted to give us something ---we were like, ok, it's not that big a deal, but whatev we'll see what he offers us.

He disappeared for a few minutes and came back with some coupons for free cones. Cool. We get ice cream afterall.
Then he left again and came back with a coupon each for a Deluxe Dream Cake. (Their ice cream cakes usually $25 and up.) We now have coupons for two free ones. Yippee!

Now, I can not explain how much I love ice cream cake (or ice cream in general) so this was like winning the lotto to me.

Anyway, just wanted to send out props again to a local PS shop owner. If only the rest of the world had such great management!

Good question. It was great. I also forgot to mention the manager discretely had the gal who was making our ice cream up grade it to a large, from a small. This was a big mistake cause it was WAY too much, yet we both still ate it.

I had a carmel apple (which only had a hint of apple) and the crushed an entire kit kat bar into it. (I like odd flavor combos, I know). Anyway, I think that was about 2,000 calories of delishousness. Later in the evening I ran 3+ laps of the park (10.5 miles) and went on a bike ride the next day with the gf. I THINK I might be back to even.
  • I have to say, Maggie Moo's dark chocolate ice cream is drek. It'd be lucky to even be considered milk chocolate.

Maggie: if you're listening, dark chocolate is supposed to be mildly sweet and slightly bitter.

I'll stick with Uncle Louie G's chocolate peanut butter ice cream, which is true dark chocolate and is to die for.

yuuum, I'll be sure to check that one out!
  • KD - aren't you in training for the upcoming Century ride? Better have Moo mix you up a Fig Bar & Banana concoction. Or how about a nice Pasta Swirl? Naww.

hahaha, well, the century ride was last weekend (it was fun), but I am actually in training for the marathon... but anyway, I'll see if they can makea pasta swirl... :?

Damn, Kosherdave. Quit rubbing it in our faces and invite us out sometime. I'm sure we'll behave infront of your girlfriend as long as you score us ice cream at Maggie Moos or a Southwestern Spring Roll at Miracle Grill. Any chance you can charm Tamari into hosting a kimchi eating contest?

Always wanted to try that stuff. Spicy, no?

But I'm pleasantly amazed that at this point in the thread (10 posts) nobody has come on to point out that Maggie Moo's ice cream is el crappo and shill for whatever place they go to. It's kinda like a required element.

EDIT: Well, I missed post #4, somehow. 8thandprez, I'm giving you 66% credit because you only complained about a specific flavor of Maggie Moo's ice cream. Too reasonable.

EDIT 2: I don't actually think Maggie Moo's is el crappo. I like the place just fine.

True, very true, but I was trying to keep my post to the favorability of the management. For what it's worth, I think their management seems very decent, but their ice cream lacks everything Hagen Daaz has to offer, and with a HD just down the street, well...
I'm still freaked out my the Hagen Daaz delivery. Who decided it was a good idea to deliver ice cream. I love and hate that person. I get ice cream cravings at odd times, but I hope I don't become too lazy to walk the half mile to the store... besides, walking there kinda justifies eating it, no? Delivery = bad (but ooohhh soo good!). I'm torn.
  • :D
I've split off the kimchi eating contest to the ProHo board . . .

This is why I nearly went insane when Kozmo.com went under. I had become incredibly addicted to midnight deliveries of Chubby Hubby and Phish Food.

Thank god Hagen Daaz delivers! I can barely squeeze out the door anymore to fetch it myself. If only I had a long hose stretching from my apartment across 7th avenue with buckets of Hagen Daaz ice cream on one end and my mouth on the other.
