unsafe in the slope

Eating at Lobo? But that's just one man's opinion.
-
I wouldn't walk in the park late at night. I've heard that there's higher crime along it at night, but I walk along prospect park west all the time and havn't had a problem yet.
-
Lock You Vajayjay any time after dark.
-
This past summer my boyfriend was mugged on Baltic between 4th and 5th, so we try to stay away from 3th and 4th aves north of Union late at night.
-
I was mugged on Caroll between 8th and PPW. Anywhere can potentially be unsafe.
-
Really on Carroll? I live on Carroll and always perceived it to be a relatively safe block. But you are correct, anywhere can be unsafe. Just minding your surroundings is the best way to keep from getting mugged.
-
If you'd like to tell us where you'll be at a certain time, we can mug you right away and get it over with.
<---yes, being a bit snarky today. Get ovet it

Is it easy to get car service at nights? How much would it cost to go to Bedford L for instance? and how long might that take?
BTW what is Vajayvajay? -

I told somebody who was flying in from the Midwest and had never been to NYC before that we'd mug them at the airport as a greeting if that made them feel better :-)

did you ever read the police blotter in the local papers?
It's always on streets you'd think are the last place anything will happen. (like Carroll. like 7th Avenue. like Garfield. like 11th Street, etc. etc.) -
Subject: safety
Park Slope is so much safer than it used to be. I've heard of people getting held up on Fifth Avenue, but very late at night, like 2 or 3 in the morning. If you read the neighborhood paper you'll read about Ipods and handbags getting stolen on 9th Street or at subway entrances, as well as house break-ins. A couple of summers ago someone tried to take my daughter's cell phone on Garfield St., supposedly a very safe street. The residential streets can be quiet and dark at night so it's best to aware of your surroundings. Park Slope is certainly not known as a dangerous neighborhood, but yes, things do happen. Nevertheless, I would never suggest to anyone to NOT move here because of safety concerns. -

This is true of most of New York City.bookistan wrote: Park Slope is certainly not known as a dangerous neighborhood, but yes, things do happen. Nevertheless, I would never suggest to anyone to NOT move here because of safety concerns.
I don't think anyone was saying that. -
Yikes. I eat at lobo all the time...is there something i should know??
-
Did everyone catch a case of the Rushkoffs? Park Slope is a pretty safe place as far as NYC neighborhoods go. Meaning, you won't get shot on the way to work but I wouldn't walk by myself at 2AM down a dark street. Exercise common sense and enjoy the Slope. This neighborhood is great. People get mugged everywhere. Just don't take your wallet and cell phone with you when you take out the garbage.

4th Street between 7th and 8th, two days before Christmas. A few years ago, thankfully. They seem to target people let their guard down more then they do rich-looking people, IMO. -
I used to live in a ground floor apartment on Union btwn Fourth and Fifth Ave - about two doors down from Fifth. This thread made me remember one night, around 3am when three teenagers fired off a gun in front of my place. That was real special - even heard one of them say "Yo, let me squeeze it son, let me squeeze it." F'ing retards.
Of course, that was the only problem I ever had there in four years. Violent acts, or should I say violent idiots, are a random, but inevitable occurrence on any street in the neighborhood. -

Between $14-$20. I've gotten charged $14-$15 from Billyburg to the Slope and paid $18-$20 the last 2 times I went out there from here.
At night with normal traffic it's a 10-15 min. ride in either direction. -
Yes things can happen anywhere but they are significantly less likely to happen in PS then many other places.
The 78 precinct (Park Slope) is one of the lowest crime precincts in Brooklyn and Brooklyn, NY is one of the safest large cities anywhere.
For comparison - Philadelphia (per capita) has had almost 4x the number of homicides as Brooklyn YTD (more then 2x the number on absolute terms). And remember Park Slope has siginificantly less crime then mst areas of the boro. -

Billyburg? First time I've heard that! -

In Spanish it's el barrio de Guillermo!

update on the police blotter, although with less details than what you read in the local paper
http://www.gothamist.com/labs/map -
I imagine burglaries are still prevalent in PS & PH. People do go where the easy money is. Car break ins/defacing are still a fact of life here. I don't see as much violent crimes as I used to although they still happen. I'm luvin' my Brooklyn though.

I've lived in South Slope/Greenwood for years and have never had a problem (knock on wood) - and I walk up from the train at 4th Avenue.

He/she has already asked that question last week: http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33476
and received very detailed answers from many helpful citizens. Apparently, they have not yet abated his/her fear that Park Slope - one of the city's most desirable neighborhoods - is a hotbed of crime. Or is it a troll?
Why is everyone asking this question? People at the Streeteasy.com forum are doing the same. It's nuts. Most people in NY would kill to live here, but can't afford it. -

fyi, pretty sure we're in the 72nd precinct (perhaps that's just south slope?)

72nd appears to be Sunset Park/Greenwood Heights. I noticed that it is often called the "South Slope" or "Park Slope" by Real Estate agents! The good news - The crime rate in that area is very, very low.
