according to one plus size clothing company's website, serene rose carries their brand. I've never been in the store so I have no clue if that's an accurate report. anyone know?

thanks.

  • I've been in there, but never noticed a specific plus-size brand. Doesn't mean it isn't there, though.

Maybe you could just call the store and ask them? The sales people have always been nice.
  • they are wonderful about carrying plus sized clothes. most of them tend to be dresses but I they did tell me they would start carrying real girl sized jeans soon
  • the one on 4th? I can ask it'sright downstairs?
  • I think it's on 5th btwn 3rd and 4th streets. steve, I'd love it if you could ask. I'm too lazy to carry my plus size ass over there for no good reason. but RED! it seems like I should go for a tiny walk and check out their dress selection!

I was looking on the kiyonna website and kinda fell in love with this silk and cotton dress. but I want to try it on because I seem to recall kiyonna clothes as being made for amazons and, while I'm a bit of a chunk, I'm 5'4".
  • There are two serene roses - one on 4th St just off of 7th and the other on 5th. Ave. The one on 4th St is housed with Razor - and both are the most outrageously priced clothing stores I have ever seen.

    Here's the whole corporate picture:

Serene Rose, Blue Rose and Serene Rose/Razor
    Serene Rose at 331 5th Ave (bet 3rd & 4th Street)
Blue Rose 89 Montague St. (@ the corner of Hicks in Brooklyn Heights)
Serene Rose/Razor at 463 4th Street (just off 7th Ave)
    (718) 832-3225
Serene Rose, Blue Rose, and Serene Rose/Razor are stores that are the brainchild of Hermian Charles and Gilbert Midonnet. This husband and wife team delights in combining elegance with a sense of fun in their offerings of apparel and accessories for body and home.

BTW - does this look like the home page of a store that carries plus sizes?

  • hmmm, well I can guarantee you quadripaly that the one on fifth Avenue DOES sell plus size clothes. and the girls that work there are fabulous.
  • Ooh, Kiyonna has some really gorgeous stuff. I'm going to have to check Serene Rose out if they do stock their clothing.
  • actually, I got an email back from hermain charles last night confirming that they do, indeed, carry plus sizes. I know where I'm trudging on saturday!
  • really good brunch 1/2 block away at Stone Park . . .
    just sayin'
    :D
  • ooh. anyone wanna go shopping/brunching with me on saturday? it'd have to be after 1 p.m. ...
  • mmm. stone park rules. biscuits and gravy!!
  • I would volunteer to go shopping with you but I think I am more than old enough to be your mother....especially if you have a very hip mother!
  • I went in there today for the first time (5th ave) and of the three women working there, two were "big", so it would make sense that they'd carry plus-sizes.

I didn't look around too much, but I saw a lot of stuff that looked like brides-maids dresses. Is that what they carry?
  • I regularly send plus sized women to Serene Rose on Fifth ave., they definitely carry plus sizes, of course I have no idea of what's currently in stock there. {sorry ladies, my shop is too small to stock every size, and I have no storage either} RedLipstick carries 2-10, 12 if I can get it.

Hermian is a doll, we frequently run into each other in the market and at trade shows, etc. You should go and see for yourself what she's got in for spring..
  • well, I went on saturday, and brunched at stone park, as suggested. (brunch ruled: biscuits and gravy were absolutely amazing.) they had TWO plus sized dresses at serene rose. but, the sales ladies were super nice and they gave me their card and told me to call back. apparently they're waiting for a shipment of some kiyonna stuff. the one kiyonna dress they had was nice, but clearly special occasion (I guess the stuff flexi saw) and not the dress I want. of course, going to the 'numbers' is a rare trip for me so I might just haul some of my stash of silk fabric over to the dressmaking shop in CH and get them to make the dress I was coveting.
  • what dressmaking shop????? there's a dressmaking shop???? who?? what?? where???
  • Perfect! I just raised my consulting rates...I will have to check it out...heh heh...Thank you SO MUCH!!!!
  • you're totally welcome. and I am psyched to have a place to drag my stash of fabric to!
