PET FOOD--DOES ANYONE MAKE THEIR OWN?

hi there.
i won't PM you since i think this information is relevant to anyone deciding to home cook for their pets. home cooking is not as easy as some people might think!
please consider referring to http://www.petdiets.com/main.asp
these folks are certified veterinary nutritionists (which is NOT common, regardless of what many so-called "experts" say. my opinion is, if you haven't studied the subject and been certified, then you're NOT an expert). FWIW, Dr. Rebecca Remillard is considered to be the foremost expert among veterinary professionals and most vets defer to her. -
I am a RMB feeder (raw meaty bones). There is a wonderful book by Dr. Tom Lonsdale that explains why this is the closest you're going to get to how dogs feed in the wild. He's from Australia where there is a large population of wild dogs which he did his studies on.

I go with Wysong Au Jus myself.

My old white cat (pictured to the left) loves to eat garbage, three day old squirrel and will happily lap up her own vomit. How hard would it be to cook for her?

my cats won't eat anything ... wet. other than water. and they slurp that. so I don't make food for them. but, in the past, for other cats, I've made food. I always leave the dry food out b/c the taurine, etc, is available there. but I think I kept many rescue cats healthy by making huge vats of veggie 'soup' with beef stock. I'd boil tons of greens (collard, turnip, kale, spinach, etc) in beef stock with tiny chunks of beef. I added whatever veggies I had on hand and then tossed it all in batches into the blender. the cats slurped it up because the beef was part of the veg. it's a great form of pet food.

Where do you buy your pet's food? I went into fairway and asked for some bones and they looked at me like I had asked them for crack.

Oh, one other question--can cats have raw chicken bones? I know you're not supposed to give them cooked ones, but what about raw? -
I cook for my cat every night! (at least he thinks so)

Do you know of a site that doesn't charge $50 for a cat food recipe? Or a good reference/recipe book?
