no cheaper than $1,200 for a "decent" 2 bedroom

I don't know what part of Park Slope you're talking about - but for the prime areas - I would say no cheaper than $2000 - and for something decent - in the relm of $2500 and up. -
seriously, no cheaper than 1500 for a ONE bedroom in good park slope. Two bedroom must be around 2 grand or more, easily.

REALLY! I guess I'm out of touch since I've never really been apartment hunting before. Those prices are wild, I'm glad I inherited a rent controlled 3 bedroom apartment. -
We pay $2050 for a 2-BR (spacious but without a real dining area) and have been told it's a "good deal". I work in mid-town and it takes 45 minutes door-to-door for me. I leave my place at 8:15 and get to work at 9. No clue about LIC.

where in the slope is that?

Where? I pay 1800. I would love to pay less! -

I have a friend who lives on 6th and 21st, they pay a bit less than a grand.
they have made their apartment decent without the help of their useless landlord but the rest of the building could use some work. -
Is that still Park Slope? I thought PS went to 15th street?

For us folk who grew up here,
Park Slope extends all the way to the cemetary. -
I would expect to pay around $2000. That is not to say there aren't apts out there for less, but they are very hard to find, especially in the nicer parts. If you are willing to go a little further south or west, you might find a better deal.
-
I pay just south of $2,000 around the corner from the Prospect Avenue subway station, for sort-of two bedrooms in a front-to-back, second-floor brownstone apartment. If you find something north of here for cheaper than that, rent it.
...It takes me about half an hour to get to Midtown (if you change to a D or N at Atlantic Avenue). ...Long Island City is a whole other kettle of fish, an extra 20 minutes or more, because you have to change to an E or V while the 7 is not running. Or stay on the N and just hike from Queensboro Plaza (...unless that's L.I.C.-ish enough for you). -

ahhh yes but the boundaries today are defined by the ever-lucrative real estate market. -

In Bizarro World maybe. But I would double that in Park Slope. And that would be the south slope, or maybe closer to 4th avenue. -

It's OK to call you douchebag then? Let's brag some more about entitlement. -

No, it's really NOT ok to call somebody a douchebag if they haven't called you a name or attacked you personally first. -

The fact that I was a teenager when my mom died, so I decided to takeover the payments of the rent and basically become an adult at an early age?
What does that have anything to do with entitlement?
Don't hate.
thanx for having my back on that one Flex

Anytime, Seven.

I sent a post with my sincere apologies but it hasn't shown up on the board. I am posting it again - my sincere and humble apology for making a very wrong assumption and calling someone a name. I mistook the original response as snide and rude, which was obviously not how it was intended.
so again - I apologize. -

I saw it, but on a another thread.
Looks like you posted it to the "how do you justify..." (fresh direct delivery -vs- bodegas) thread:
http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=359387#359387
Guessing that you are responding to these via email (instead of online, where it's harder to confuse threads)?
Anyhoo, just thought I'd mention I'd seen it, so you knew it did go up, somewhere.
-
thanks for that. No, I am responding to them online. Regardless, I'm glad it was posted and seen. Thanks.

Knocking on lots of wood...
Wow. You've made me realize we lucked out. I'm in the same spot and we pay $1600 for a floor-thru with garden. Very nicely maintained too.
So I guess it is luck of the (craigslist) draw. -
Im waiting for someone to tell me how long it takes me to get to LCI and if it is reasonable to stay at Park Slope if I work there.

Well, TBH I kinda read it as a stealth brag too - just didn't seem to be any other reason to volunteer the information given. Shit happens.
so again - I apologize. -

mostly it's because you are not giving enough specific information, newbie.
it depends on which subway you end up living near and which subway stop in LIC you need to get off at. if you take the F/G combination from the slope to LIC it'll take you roughly an hour door to door. but that's only one potential combination. where will your office be in LIC? it's a big place, same as the slope. -

I have similar space, nice garden, so-so maintenance on Prospect but a little further East. People without a garden pay around 1600 in this building. This was the least expensive decently sized place I could find in the area with office space and 2 bedrooms. -
We live in south slope and pay less than 2000 for a 3 bed, 2 bath apt.

When you say South Slope, where do you mean? Because your profile says South/Greenwood Hts. Thats a big difference. I think it would be verrrry rare to find a 2br for 2000 or less if you're talking about the the area bordered by PPW and 4th Ave on the East and West, and Flatbush and 15th St on the North/South. It took my wife and I 2 years to find an acceptable apartment in this area for under $2500. Even most of the 2500 ones were crap. We ended up getting lucky and finding one for $2100. -
I live on President between 8th and the Park. I pay 1800 for a one bedroom (brownstone apartment building...two apartments per floor). As for L.I.C. If I leave my apartment and walk to 7th ave and 9th street to catch the f to the g, it takes me less than 45 minutes to get to L.I.C (21st/Van Alst Stop). Don't forget you can get the G train from Smith/9th and not bother with the E/V/7 trains. As for getting to midtown...from the 2/3 Grand Army Plaza stop to midtown it takes me about the same....35 to 40 minutes during rush hours....believe it or not it's faster when it's not rush hour.
PS...native Brooklynites consider PS to go to the cemetary. And technically, it's been only recently that anything below 6th Ave was considered PS....remember Gowanus anyone LOL) -

That all depends on who you ask. Some say that PS runs to the highway, some say the graveyard, some say 15th, some say that what we now know as GH is actually the South Slope and PS now runs into the 20's. I'm not sure where I live, but it's a nice decent area close to lots of cool places.
