Crackish house on Prospect Pl.

Anyone know what the story is what the crack-style house on Prospect b/t Underhill and Washington (north side of street, closer to Wash)? Over the past few months, the bedsheet window treatments have been replaced by completely blown-out glass (apparently from the inside, by the looks of the sidewalk). It's a blight on what is a pretty unattractive block to begin with.

There's been a for-sale sign out front for the six months i've lived on the block. Though the place is certainly lacking in the curb appeal department, I would think someone would be happy to buy it as a tear down for the right price.

    I think that you're talking about a house that has been unoccupied for a while - not too long ago, some kids were smoking in there and accidentally (?) set fire to the place...

    I phoned the real estate company on that sign months ago to inquire about buying it. The guy said they wanted something like $1.25 million for it--as a teardown, or as he put it an "investment opportunity."

    Glad to see they haven't been able to sell it. It's not pretty, but neither is a Fedders building. It could have made a nice fixer-upper for someone, but over the last few months it has really deteriorated. F!@#$ing real estate people...

    I think I know which house you mean -- lots of crap all over the sidewalk in front of it, yes? Someone should call 311 and have that place boarded up.

    I know the man who lived in that house. He was a single dad with a daughter and two sons. Last time I saw him, he said he'd sold the house. He told me he sold it for a million bucks, but obviously, that wasn't the case. I'd see him every morning for years. A nice guy.

    It's 373 Prospect Place and the reason it's so expensive is that it has a really large lot, 25x173. On top of that, the zoning allows for a greater bulk than most residential streets so as of right someone can build close to 13,000 square feet on it. I think the reason it hasn't sold is because the lot is only 25 ft wide which makes it more difficult to use all of those dev rights.

    Yep 373. I hate that building, I live around the corner from there, it’s a boil on the block.

    I get a sanitation ticket for having my cardboard vertical instead of horizontal. And this place looks like Beruit circa late 1980’s with nary a ticket in sight.

    I checked it out on Property Shark, The owner (caveat: according to PS) is Pierre Taylor of Guilderland NY. It also has a tax lien from the city. When I get home tonight I’m going to give a call to 311. It's been something I've been meaning to do.

    Unless that building is sealed up pronto. I can guarantee that it will go up in flames by the end off the summer.

    No, I’m not planning on setting the place on fire.

    311's a good idea. I'll try to remember to do that as well. Though i'll miss seeing the look of "what the hell?" on people's faces as they walk by.

    I live close by, I'd fix it up..

    It's a two sided sword, I guess. Keeps the neighborhood personality and the condos away, yet it's the ugliest piece around.

    Any word on what's going on with this?

    i think they mean the one next to it -- covered in graffiti, burned out inside, concrete in the first floor windows, all-around-charmer.

    Right across the street on building just did a nice flagstone and garden in front... they worked pretty hard on it themselves. Plus I've seen stairs being redone and a door replaced. Too bad they have to see the mess on the other side for now.

    its a blight, man.
    combined with the wood-frame house that's set far back from the street and the industrial-looking on the other side, it's a real mess. When we have guests from outta town we walk 'em down Park Place from Washington, and we live on Prospect/Grand.

    Those lots have a huge upside—they'll all soon be condos...or is that part of the LPC district?

    Prospective LPC stops on the other side of the street. As for soon to be condos... times are harder, money is shorter, and construction has been slower.
