F'in Fresh Direct Beverage Packers

All right. I'm a patient, forgiving person, but I really feel like going down to their shipping wearhouse and kicking someone in the face. I have HAD IT with ordering beverages from them. For the fifth or sixth time in a row, when ordering a case of Tropicana juice in bottles, they've sent the wrong thing. The RIGHT label is on it, but apparently whomever puts those labels on just grabs any old beverage off the shelf and slaps it on.

I've been complaining about this problem in very specific and detailed emails to them for months, but they have done jack sh*t about it. Why can't they just find someone who can match a label to the correct product?!!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Can we have a general boycott of buying beverages from them until they get it together?

  • If you contact their customer service on their website, they'll credit you for whatever you didn't get and won't charge you for what you got instead. I haven't had many problems, but they've always made good on it when they made an error. They even credited me when they sent me a stale black and white cookie.
  • I'm curious: why bottles?

Yeah, at first I was cool with that, because you do get to keep whatever it was they gave you by mistake, but now its just getting so annoying to have to then wait around for them to redeliver. Eventhough I'm getting something free, I'd rather avoid the hassle and just get it in the first place.

Do you mean why did I order bottles, or why do they get bottles wrong all the time? :?
  • I feel your pain. We drink a lot of Diet Coke and it's a pain to lug around. So we ordered it from Fresh Direct -- and what the hell, we also ordered most of the rest of our groceries from there, even though the prices weren't always great.

Out of about 8 large orders, 4 got the Diet Coke part totally wrong. It was simple: 24 bottles each time. The last 3 orders *in a row* they delivered the wrong thing. Once regular Coke, twice Caffeine-Free Diet Coke. And after that, we just gave up on Fresh Direct, 'cause it was like they were saying Fuck You to us and our money.

I finally figured it out... I've noticed they limit the amount of Diet Coke you can order. I suspect it's not very profitable when you add up the space it takes up in the truck and the time it takes to deliver it. I think they were deliberately fucking up because they just don't want the business of people who order a lot of heavy beverages. Fair 'nuff -- we don't use them any more and now we're both happy! Perhaps that'll end up being your solution too?

I don't think your interpretation is correct. I order several cases of beverages per order (one of water, about one mixed case of soda and usually at least a case of beer or wine or both), as well as milk, juice, whatever, and I've never had a problem with beverages. I've had more problems with cold cuts and no longer order cold cuts from them (they just don't know what "sliced thin" means). On the whole, I think they do pretty well, and their customer service is so great about any errors that they do make that it's hard to stay mad at them.
  • are you ordering cases, though? I mean, I've ordered, for instance, a case of san p, or a 24 can block of diet coke and had no problems. it's when you start ordering individual things, or things that come loose, that they screw it up.

kinda sad, though - whenever the fuck up and give me something free, it's never a bottle of wine.
  • Oh, yeah, I was ordering cases. And their attitude was very unconcerned, even after the third mistake in a row.

And yes, I tipped the delivery guys, not that I think they had anything to do with it.

They just didn't want my business, and I don't want to deal with them. No harm, no foul. I was only ordering ~$75-$90 per order in any case; a customer like me is probably not worth keeping in their business model.

I find it very interesting that caaahyoko is having a very similar experience with heavy beverages. They got the milk, cream, soy milk, cottage cheese, etc. right -- but I was only ordering a few of those. It was on the large lots of heavy stuff that they kept "messing up."
  • Also, about a year and a half or so ago, they stopped even offering Diet Coke for a while (a month or two, I seem to recall). And I stopped buying from them, and figured they had done the right thing and just admitted they didn't want to be in the beverage delivery business. Then they brought it back (customer demand?) and I foolishly jumped back in, eager to save myself some heavy lifting...
  • they have messed up 8 of the 10 last orders I've had. Minor things, sometimes just adding weird random shit. I've tried some odd stuff from them because of this. I just go to the site and email them, and they credit me, but yeah, if it was something I really needed then and there (like if I ordered stuff to make a dish) and they missed something, I'd be pissed off too!
  • Its a strange and very specific problem they seem to have. When I called customer service today, the woman said that she also thinks it is one position in the warehouse that they can't seem to find a competent person to fill. Its the soda and juice that get screwed up, but I've never had a problem with San Pellegrino cases.
  • Is that so? I've actually been drinking a lot less Diet Coke (too weak to go cold turkey) and a lot more San Pellegrino. Think I should try FD again?.... Naaaaah!
  • i order a case of seltzer every time and have never had a problem, fwiw. actually, the only mistakes i can think of have been in my favor. but i don't order from them all that much.

Haha. Yeah, you'll probably jinx my San Pellegrino. Then again, maybe I'll order SP and get that missing Tropicana... :D
  • We order cartons of juice, and it always seems right.

I think, because these are the non-refridgerated type, they are in a different part of the warehouse. I've never had a problem with the carton beverages either. Its weird, I know.
  • I just got a FD delivery: Eight 2-liter soda bottles, 2 bottles of wine, one case of water, all correct. No freebies this time though.
