going rate for babysitters — Brooklynian

going rate for babysitters

How much do babysitters get paid these days per hour? I'm especially looking for info on college educated adult babysitters (not full-time nannies) just part time babysitters for a few hours here or there.

Thanks

  • Going rate for a teenager is around $7-8 per hour. I don't think there are a lot of college-educated adults doing part-time babysitting.
  • but i do! i have a college degree, have been babysitting since i was a teenager and am hooked. what can i say? i love kids. i usually charge $12 an hour, but i'd say it usually fluctuates between $10 and $15 an hour.
  • I should clarify - I'm a teacher and thinking about making some extra cash during the summer by doing some babysitting.
  • I too have degrees up the kazoo but I would consider babysitting for between $10-$12 an hour. Why? Because I love kids. I have raised a bunch and have grandkids and babysit for friends kids.
There is no better day for me than sharing it with a child!!

That fEELING is more important to me at this stage than all those degrees and all the academic careers I have had.
Shoot me or hire me~! Lol!
  • I babysit one family in Manhatten and usually just take whatever the give me. We never had the "how much do you charge" conversation and they usually pay me well. Sometimes it is like $20 an hour...sometimes it ends up closer to $10.
They have 2 kids - one is 4 and the other is 1 and a half.

    Good luck!
