You'd like us to imagine him breaking the neck of a young lady? That's a cheery thought.
You are very talented with cutting and pasting my post. I don't remember saying "young lady", oh...maybe you are related to Keith. I'm sorry... -

Maybe you never read chapter five of the aforementioned book. Or is it that you fell asleep before the end of the 1981 TV adaptation? -

Guys, guys, guys -- can we get back to the topic, purty please? There seems to be an upswing in menacing and dangerous activity lately in the area, given all the posts here and in the CH forujm about muggings and shootings, and the more information we share here without devolving into flamewars the better. Please? -
I had an encounter a couple of weeks back....and it must have been this Keith guy. I just read this thread and made the connection.
I was walking towards Underhill on Bergen, returning from the liquor store on Washington. Right as I got past the autoshop, he approached me and wanted to shake hands - I said no and kept walking. So, he quickly turned and followed me. I sensed that he was following me and ducked into the store on the corner of Bergen and Underhill. I'm in there quite a bit, and they know me (or at least my face), so I felt comfortable in there. He immediately followed me in and cornered me back near the coolers and made me shake his hand. I did and immediately walked out. He quickly did, too, and I luckily beat him to my apartment building door and had time to shut it before he could push his way in.
I was pretty shaken by the whole deal, as I wasn't sure what this guy's intentions were.
EDIT: He definitely was not wearing sweatpants, though. -
After reading all of these posts, I realized Keith is familiar to my household, too. Once I witnessed him boxing at the corner of Vanderbilt and Sterling around 7am and was so freaked out I crossed the street. I could hear the air whistling by his fists, he was throwing the punches so hard. Another time, my husband and a friend stopped at Prospect Perk at about 6 am on a Saturday and he blocked them as they attempted to get back into their car. Keith told them that if they didn't give him money he would have to rob someone.

im pretty sure i had a run in with this kieth person as well.
one night about a month ago i was walking down vanderbuilt around the corner from prospect place about 10:30 pm. i was alone and this one black guy about 6'1" just walked up to me with his hand out like he wanted me to shake it. i just looked at him and said " what do you want ? " and gave him this look that said " im not going to shake you hand,i dont know you.
i think he asked me for some change but i cant remember. i said something like "i dont have any" and he just walked away.
im not a small guy and from the sound of it it seems he only gets aggressive with women or couples.
from what i remember he was on the tall side but more chubby than muscular. also he had kind of baby face i thought he was in his teens.
i wonder if it was the same guy. -
Does anyone have a picture of this Keith guy? This is really scary. Any reports of actual assaults/robberies where he made good on threats?

It works, people. After seeing the agressive overweight-white-guy panhandler harass dozens of people night after night as they came out of the 2/3 EPKWY station, I called 311 who transfered me to 911. I never saw him anywhere near the 2/3 station after that.
PS--311 told me that the city has an agressive panhandler program, so, in other words, they WANT you to report this stuff. -
Does anyone know anything about the dude who can barely walk who hangs out a lot at the grand army 2-3 stop and the 7th ave Q train stop? Seems like he might have been a fixture for a while. It's hard watching the poor guy cross a street 2 inches at a time.

He's been around for at least the few years that I've been here. He's a really nice guy, but usually not all there. Oh, and I've never seen him asking for money. -

I swear that guy has been there for YEARS---as long as I can remember. I used to work at a toy store on 7th Av. back in 1997 and there was a guy then who may or may not be the same one. -
i see that guy almost every morning in the Q-B 7th ave stop.
have you ever seen the other dude who hangs out there?
black guy about 5'7" usually wears a black doo rag and a torn up leather jacket on backwards. but the real kicker is that i usually see him vigorously dry shaving one half of his face with a disposable razor.
that muther fucker is coo coo for coco puffs.erikka wrote: [quote=BigGuy]Does anyone know anything about the dude who can barely walk who hangs out a lot at the grand army 2-3 stop and the 7th ave Q train stop? He got me and my boyfriend as well. Right on Classon and Park. He said he had gotten out of jail and needed help.
"Don't you know any homeless people? Well, I'm one of them," he said. Then he added that he hoped we weren't muslim. He didn't like those "type of people." And liked the idea that "all these Europeans" are coming to the area.
Have to admit, one of the more interesting conversations I've had since moving here. -
After reading post after post on this topic and having had my own run-ins with Keith myself, I'm not seeing anyone calling the police. This is not a 311 matter, this is a priority. This guy uses intimidation to get money, if his presence alone and his aggresive behavior causes you to fear for your safety or give him money that constitutes a Robbery. Please call 911 if you have any encounters with Keith. Give a detailed description and a direction of flight. Keith is a M/B about 5'7'' atleast 200 lbs stocky muscular build around 35-40 yrs old has short hair or shaved head.wheres black sweats and a t shirt. Sometimes walks with a cheap 10 speed bike. He is not your local harmless begger who stands by the bodega with a cup.

The man with dreads?
If you stop to talk to him you'll find he's not as crazy as you think, and might just send you off to work with a smile.jgregorie wrote: i see that guy almost every morning in the Q-B 7th ave stop.

seems nice enough--most times I see him he's chatting with people coming out of the station. There was one other guy who stands there with a cup of coins jangling them in your face--is he still around? -

No, I think that he's talking about the guy that shaves in the little mirrors on the MetroCard machines at the 7th Ave B/Q. Smaller guy, skinny.

Ive delt with Keith and he DOES ask for money. He once asked me fer cash and I soft-shoed that I didnt have any. He then truned the tables to "we could go to an atm and you could get some" so I said I was going somwhere and all I had on me was my metrocard ...or something.
He bought it...I lied. I dont care.
edit: this was a while ago, to be fair...1.5 yrs ago? -

Sounds like a sensational deal to me! Can't believe you didn't take him up on it... -
One tactic that has never failed for me is to assume a downcast expression and announce that I was laid off the previous week. I then wonder aloud how I'm going to support my wife and two small children. This turns the tables and makes me the victim. It's almost touching to see a panhandler tell me not to worry, that everything will be OK, that I should file for unemployment, etc.
