Dog left tied up outside 7th Avenue Starbucks? — Brooklynian

Dog left tied up outside 7th Avenue Starbucks?

Did anyone see the sign on a parking meter about a fox terrier that was left tied up outside? Whoever left the sign must have taken the dog because they left a number to call. I saw the sign today at about 3pm.

Of course some stupid twit left her small terrier type dog tied up under the sign while she got her coffee. There were people standing around thinking it was the fox terrier. I swear the dog was minutes away from being mistakenly rescued. The woman came out and snidely said, "This isn't a fox terrier." As if everyone knows what a fox terrier looks like. I asked her if it was her dog and she said yes. I told her that it wasn't very smart tying him up directly under that sign.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with people? What if someone came along, read that sign, and had no idea it wasn't a fox terrier and took the dog? Every time I see a dog tied up outside a store I want to wait for the owner to come out and give them a good talking to. Lady Day was taken from Flatbush Ave, a 12 year old lab, in the middle of the day. Do people not learn from stuff like that or are they just so oblivious or what? I don't know. It just makes me so angry because the dog is going to be the one suffering the most.

Does anyone know anything about the dog that was left? The bottom of the sign said it was medically urgent for the owner to contact them. I hope the dog is okay.

  • I saw those signs all up and down 7th Ave today and I don't really think I could identify a fox terrier. That was a really dumb move by that woman. How did she respond?
  • Not very nice. She sort of laughed in a snotty way, as if to say, "how could you think MY dog was a fox terrier?" There were 4 people standing around wanting to help this dog, thinking it needed it. I was so stunned by the idiocy of the whole thing that I really had to bite my tongue to keep from saying anything else. Her attitude was so cavalier and her dog was so happy to see her, I wanted to scream. She acted like everyone surrounding her dog was a moron when all they wanted to do was help.

And there is no way I could identify a fox terrier either. I just don't get most people, animals are so much simpler.
  • I'm not quite sure why people tie their dogs up outside of businesses anyway. it's like those people you see in manhattan that are having brunch and their dogs are tied up outside. heck, you see this at cafe shane, too. it pisses me off. walk your dog, take it home, then go to brunch, asshat.
  • Did they put up a new sign?
Something about a medical emergency and needing information from the owner -- the whole thing sounds really crazy to me . . .
  • The sign I saw over the weekend talked of a medical emergency, so those are probably the same signs - up and down both sides of 7th Ave.
  • According to FIDO, the sign has nothing to do with any lost/stolen dog. The fox terrier bit someone while tied up outside. That someone didn't realize the bite broke the skin until they'd gotten home, and now they are facing a series of rabies shots. That's the medical emergency and the reason for the sign.

In case anyone sees that dog again, Fox terriers come in two varieties, wire-haired and smooth - the bitee didn't specify. They look a bit like Jack Russells but with longer legs.
