Bubbleworks alternative — Brooklynian

Bubbleworks alternative

Can anyone recommend a pick-up/drop-off laundry service other than Bubbleworks that serves PH? Though generally satisfied with their service, I feel like they set their driers to "surface of the sun" temperature levels. Frequently, clothes that i've owned and had laundered for months or years come back from B'works noticeably smaller. And i'm not talking about delicates -- standard t-shirts and boxers and socks loads.

I've seen laundry.bz mentioned before on this site -- can anyone chime in about them? I like that they offer low-temp drying (for an extra charge), but i'm wary of a place without a storefront and with a somewhat non-professional looking website.

Thanks!

  • I used Joe's service until we got a washer/dryer. He's lovely, and picks up/drops off same day - (646) 220-2220
  • Yeah I took a comforter to Bubbleworks once and it came back smelling like piss & dirty jeans. NOT GOOD. I took it to a different laundrymat and washed it myself and never went back to that place.
  • I had the same problem with BUBBLEWORKS! They are absolutely awful. The have four-hour windows to pick up and drop off When I used them, they picked up on a SUnday night and were due to drop off on a Wednesday night. A half-hour into the scheduled drop-off time, after I rushed home for the start time, they called and said they weren't coming because the laundry wasn't finished. To reschedule, even though it was their fault, they refused to schedule a smaller window then four hours, and refused to offer any discount or even a coupon in concilliation. Then when I got the bill, I was floored! All around awful. And Clean Rite is also significantly more expensive then the drop-off/pick-up place I used when I lived in Manhattan.
  • When I did my laundry at clean rite, it never smelled fresh. There was something ineffectual about their machines. I don't know what was wrong with them! I tried all different kinds of detergent and nothing worked.
  • I am a HUGE fan of laundry.bz. Yeah, the website is a bit sketch, and the guys that come and pick up your bags look like they just got released from prison BUT they are nice, dont complain about the fact that I live on a 4th floor walk up and usually have 40 lbs, and they always come on time (one hour window) and drop off 24 hours later. The have very convenient pick up and drop off times and they e-mail you right away when you submit a pickup order to confirm exactly when they will be there. Also you can request a specific brand of detergent and my clothes have always come back fresh scented and super soft. On top of all that they even do a decent job matching up your socks and folding shirts!! if you haven't used their service you are really missing out.
  • I use the place at Underhill & Sterling. Never had a problem, very friendly. $.70/pound I think? Closed Tuesdays.
  • I go to Labady French Cleaners, 754 Washington Ave. (btwn park & sterling)
  • ouch. laundry.bz, despite their purported prospect heights service, does not service my area. F**K you, laundry.bz - you're totally fucking retarded.

    Ali keeps my biz.
  • ooh, I'm lousy at censoring myself, eh?

and I just emailed them to tell them they're idiots.
  • That Laundry City (king?) on Grand and Prospect. Is pretty good for doing your laundry there. Even on weekends I can get a dryer, which is saying a lot for the amount of people in there.

But dropping off!!!!??? The few times I did it.. it was never ready when they said it would be and I had to forfiet my laundry for over 3 days.

I thought ALL places have same day pickup if you drop off in the AM... am I wrong? Where can I get this type of service... please??? ](*,)
  • Hi. Well no you didn't actualy cath me lying. The reason I said we don't go to your address is bacause we have dificulty parking on Washinton Ave. And we don't go to certain areas where we have traffic and or parking problems. If you feel that parking won't be aproblem for us let us know and we will give it a try. Thanks, and sorry for any confusion we might have caused.
    nice.

oh. robdesign13 - Ali's on St. Johns at Washington will complete your laundry same day.
  • Oh Thank you, thank you, thank you.

OH, but I live on Bergen/Washington... anyone know anything closer?
  • Subject: Laundry Services...new in the area

    Hi people.

I just moved to St. Marks Avenue in Prospect Heights and I'm still getting my bearings with the area. I don't have Washer/Dryer so definitely need one....pick-up/drop-off would be preferred. Saw different recommendations for places. So can anyone give me the best places to use, and their #'s. Also if you can tell me how much they charge that would be great. And do you usually tip the delivery people picking up or dropping off?

    Someone let me know.

    Thanks

    - Jonathan
  • So, I am having a laundry EMERGENCY in that I've failed to do any for, oh, about a month, and can't possibly carry all I need for drop off. Needing a place that does free pickup/delivery, must accept credit cards (sadly laundry.bz is cash only, and I live, breath and eat the plastic), and does laundry by pound and drycleaning, it looked like Bubbleworks was my only alternative. First pickup was scheduled 12-4 today for return in a 12-4 window Sunday. It's 4:18 and they have not showed up and allegedly cannot locate the driver, nor can they be bothered to care that Mr. Bunnycup has sat home unable to leave for four hours and can't continue to do so endlessly in hopes a laundry guy can find room in his busy schedule to keep the appointment they offered. Needless to say, before entrusting $500 worth or more (like I said, it's got to be 50 pounds if it's an ounce) of my and Mr. Bunnycup's clothes to them, in light of the poor service and the complaints here I told them not to bother coming - not to be snooty about my time here, but I am left with a REALLY poor, unprofessional, untrustworthy feeling about Bubbleworks.

I am going to have to work out some new, Bubbleworks-free solution.
  • Subject: Laundry King or Laundry City

Don't go to Laundry City on Grand and St. Marks.

Their employees are rude, they've refused to break a bill, refused to switch a 10$ bill when the machine wouldn't take mine for that stupid card thing, and when the machines overcharged me they refused to give many any money back. The so called manager wouldn't even give me her name when I asked for it, b/c I told her I was going to complain to the owner.

Doing laundry is already a pain in the ass, without their help.
  • Subject: BUBBLE WORKS RUINED MY JACKET

    Hello,

In Regards to the services that have been Provided to me by your company: Bubble Works at: 718 WASHINGTON AVENUE (BET) PROSPECT & PARK PL
    BROOKLYN N.Y. 11238

My name is David Tucker, and I will be trying to get in Contact with the NCA and anyone I can that will help with this matter, of which I am VERY NOT HAPPY WITH!
I just received a delivery of Laundry that I sent in a week ago, and upon opening the bag, I have a Jacket that was faded and discolored to the extreme and wrinkled and it's just terrible.
I am looking at Compensation as this jacket cost me $60.00, and I would like to know what will be done about this matter? I think your services are unprofessional and DOWN RIGHT CLASSLESS.
No one even bothered to call me and tell me that they ruined my clothing. ONLY to put in in the bag , and try to fold it up, and make it seem like it was OK! WELL, IT IS NOT!

You have the nerve to charge me a 10% driver tip, that is mandatory, and I am not sure if it's even legal to do so.

I can be contacted at: ****** asap. I will be waiting to hear from someone, as this will not just slide with me! I'm not sure how many other people your company has done this to, but it stops now!

iS THERE ANY LEGAL GROUND THAT I MAY HAVE HERE, to take this place to small claims court?
CAN SOMEONE CONTACT ME @: [email protected]

I have tried to get in contact with a manager, but the girl says he stepped out. He always seems to step out when there is a complaint. He never calls back, but he's got the right Black Man this time! I will go up to 718 washington avenue myself! I will file a fraud charge on my card and I want my $60.00 for my Jacket!
  • Did anyone ever find decent alternatives?
  • gemini365i wrote: Did anyone ever find decent alternatives?
Doesn't look like it. I am also in need of a pickup service.
  • I had the same runaround situation with Bubbleworks. They destroyed about five shirts of mine and I tried to contact the Washington ave. manager and the Fulton street manager a number of times and never heard back.

Joe's is great, give him a call

    (646) 220-2220
  • I like Joe's also. I'm only just now seeing how their dry cleaning is but their laundry work is good and the delivery folks are prompt & professional.

(for the record, I don't know Joe and have no stake in his business)
  • Hmm, I might consider Joe's for next time.

Bubbleworks appear to have lost half our clothes.
  • i love laundry.bz
Sorry they dont service you alafairnada! (TSD)
but..im sort of anal (TdefinitelySD) about having my clothes folded nicely. I used the 2way for awhile but i broke my foot and they dont pick up and deliver so i started using laundry.bz they are amazing. always on time. stuff smells good. and folded beautifully.
i know Joe personally so i feel like it would be weird to have him washing my undies. Hes a LOVELY man though.

how late is Ali's open? do you know how much they charge a pound... I tried to find there number online but it was disconnected
  • also I swear I got a flyer the other day for a new laundry place somewhere near the Old Jewish Hospital apartments... I think its in one of the buildings?
  • sir_eccles wrote:

Just to close the story on this one. After many calls and discussions with the manager they found our missing clothes, reprocessed them and delivered them.
  • I know this is an old thread but i did not want to make a new one.

I will not be going back to this place. I live just a block away from them so I have lazily been dropping off my laundry there and coming by to pick it up. They always usually tell me come by at 6pm usually two days later but always at 6pm. So 6:15pm I swing by and at least half the time (most likely more) I am told its not ready and to come back at 7pm, so I come back at 7pm and at least half those times they tell me its still not ready. They just run a shitty company, it really pisses me when you pay money for a service and the company says one thing and consistently does another without any apology. I got things I would like to do and if I make it a point to be around at a certain time to pick up my laundry as I was told I expect to pick up my laundry. I mean a phone call saying its not ready would do fine but its the fact I make sure I am home on the day/time they tell me and than its not done, than I wait an hour, "oh still not done, sorry", come back tomorrow around 6pm. wtf!?!
  • We followed the suggestions here and called Joe's. Fantastic service, lovely folks. I'm not sure why we didn't give Bubbleworks the boot sooner, but LAUNDER AT JOE'S!
  • Have you guys tried the new laundromate on St Marks and Classon? They have free delivery, new machines and free dryer.
