Community Supported Ag on Maple St. — Brooklynian

Community Supported Ag on Maple St.

This goes for Crown Heights people and those of you who insist it be called Prospect-Lefferts. Or those of you actually in P-L.

A new Community Supported Agriculture (group?) is starting up. If you don't know what that is, here's a primer. I'm joining this group, since in the past I've always wanted to do this, and I'm finally able to be part of one very nearby.

Basically, you buy shares at the beginning of summer. Each share ($500 4-person household), or half-share ($275, 2 people), gets you a week's supply (or more!) of fresh produce May 29 to Mid-Nov. from a working family-owned, certified organic farm.

Food pickup will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. The prices are $500 for a full share (4-member family) and $275 for a half (2), with maybe discounts for incomes under 30K.

Prospect/Lefferts Garden Prospect/Lefferts Garden CSA will be held at

  • I've been involved with the Prospect Heights CSA for a couple of years. It's a really good thing to have as an option for the neighborhood. I'm glad you are starting one up for Crown Hts/Prospect Lefferts Gdns. I'd encourage people to try it. The cost is really fair when you figure that it comes to only around 10-15 dollars a week for fresh, locally grown, organic produce.

I was happy with the CSA produce last year, even though it was a bad growing season in general. Hopefully we'll get some good tomatoes this year!
