Anyone know when I'll be able to get my elote and huaraches? Tengo tanto hambre!

  • This weekend!
  • Oh, wow, seriously? I'm salivating already.
  • According to the Voice--this weekend, weather permitting I'm sure. So don't shoot the messenger if it's empty.
  • Really!!!!!
    OMG!!
Que felicidad! Ya se que quiero para mi cumpleanos! Un huarache con chile verde y guacamole!

    weather permitting, of course. =P~
  • Don't you mean to say "ADM!" instead of OMG?

    (!Ay, Dios mio!)
  • Alas, went to Red Hook today. No food stalls. The soccer field was in use, but no huaraches. I consoled myself my going to Fairway.
  • Went last weekend: still closed. Major grumbling ensued.
  • i was at the baseball fields sunday, and i ate some very lovely tacos. i haven't gone before, so maybe there weren't as many stalls as there have been, but no one was going hungry.

i have the grounder-induced goose egg on my left shin to prove it.

on another note, does anybody who actually speaks spanish want a cute, dumb tagalong? i feel like a grinning idiot.
  • I'll be going at some point. Will it be utterly crazy and packed this weekend, being that it's the 'official' opening day?
  • This weekend is official? I haven't seen any food stalls yet this season, but I remembered one of the vendors telling me that their season is Mayo-Octubre.

I'm literally dying for an elote con mayonesa, chile, y queso and a nice cold agua fresca.
  • URG! The "Official" start date has been pushed back to May 5th, according to The Porkchop Express

    QUIT TOYING WITH MY AFFECTIONS!!!

Though I hear some stalls were open last weekend. A very few, but some... sigh.
  • Subject: test

    test
  • i really hope that if anyone heads over there this weekend that they post a review!

can anyone tell me what the hours are, BTW?
  • Everything you always wanted to know about the stalls at the ballfields...

I'm going today - around Noon - so will report back
  • OK - went today - got there about 12:30 PM and by 1:00 PM it was packed. Or should I say that the three best stalls were packed. The two huarache/taco stalls were booming and the original pupusa stall was jammed. Soccer game going on, people sitting in the sun, on the grass, just having a great time. This is one of the best vibes in Brooklyn and one of the most diverse crowds anywhere.

The pork huarache I had and the two pupusas my wife has (one jalapeno & cheese, the other bean & cheese) were fantastic.

It was great to be back there for both the food and the people.
  • yay! just reading that made me so happy, LtT. thanks for sharing, and glad you and Wifey had a marvelous time!
  • Visited the fields yesterday. A bit chilly, but the stalls were in full swing and the huaraches were iiiiiiiiiiiincreible!

One comment: all of the stalls are now located inside the park and off the sidewalk, which makes for less seating area as the picnic tables are now gone. It looks like a new sidewalk was recently poured, so hopefully they'll be back in the original location soon.

Also - was it just me or did things seem tidier and more organized this time? Everyone was wearing food preparation gloves, which I don't recall seeing before. Not that I'm complaining, I like hygiene as much as the next guy.
