(snort)
Are we retracing your steps, looking for a contact lens or something?
(although, in addition to being funny, it COULD be helpful . . .

I love threading. MUCH better than waxing (got burned once - the whole "dip the stick in wax and blow on it" thing isn't quite science). My place is cheap ($6), but in Manhattan. I don't think I've seen anything local.
-
yeah, i do, too. i'm a tweezer girl myself, until i made friends with a wonderful egyptian woman who turned me on to threading. haven't done it in awhile, but if there were a local place i sure would patronize it!

i'm lousy with the tweezers, and wax burns me as well. threading hurts like hell but works.
i thought i saw a sign someplace but now i am not remembering where -
What is the difference between threading and waxing?
Why would I get my eyebrows threaded instead of waxed? -
Threading - they take a piece of string and twist it around individual hairs and pull them out. One end of the string is in between the teeth of the threader. I think that sounds gross, but it doesn't bother me. It's not like they are drooling on you!
Waxing - they slather wax along the arch of your brow and rip the wax (and the hair off).
Some people like waxing because it's quicker and although it hurts, it is done and over with so fast.
I like threading because they are able to create a better shape for your eyebrows by removing individual hairs instead of a bunch at once.
Plus, as mentioned above, I've been burned by the wax before. They take what looks like a tongue depresser, dip it in hot pink wax, blow on it and then slather it on to your eyebrow arches. It's very unscientific and the wax can be too hot. -
threading is like enhanced, super-duper tweezing. instead of plucking one or two hairs at a time, a pair of threads is run across the browline and removes many hairs extremely quickly. if you're used to the sensation of plucking, it doesn't hurt much at all. and it's soooo much faster than tweezing!

Where is your place in Manhattan? I'm an eyebrow grooming newbie, and have no idea where to go. Threading seems like it would be the best bet for me, but I don't know anyone who has tried it.
Thanks. -
I'm sure there are a few places in Jackson Heights also, in the Indian area. Basically any "salon" there.
-
search the site for threading - someone posted a few months ago about a place in ft. greene.

There is a place on Fulton but I can't remember the exact address. I think it's not too far from the Crunch gym they have there but a few blocks further towards Clinton Hill. Its on a corner. Anyway, its cheap - below $10. But the ambience is low. Its not a pleasurable experience being in there but they are quick and efficient.

727 6th Ave (btw. 23/24th St) - right near the F train stop at 23rd. Upstairs......
Thanks. -
The place on Fulton is called Rita's. Its on the corner of the block where Brooklyn Tech is. As Precious said it is low on ambiance, but you walk in, Rita puts you in the chair - fwip, fwip- and you have perfectly arched eyebrows in less than ten minutes.

thats literally a block from work- everyone goes there. I've yet to do it but wonder what it would be like to do a bikini? sounds like it would take a long time... -
I don't think they thread bikini areas. I have their business card which lists services and threading is only listed for eye, ip, chin, forehead, side of face, and neck.
Bikini is listed as waxing
