Are you ready for fresh vegetables delivered to your own neighborhood straight from the farm?

The first-ever Greenwood Heights CSA is now forming! This summer Hardy Roots Farm will be delivering fresh vegetables to Greenwood Heights every week!

What is CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture helps to support family farms that are struggling to stay in business, while providing city people with access to high quality, locally-grown, affordable produce. Our CSA is not-for-profit organization designed to create a partnership between a local farm and our community.

How does it work?
We will be offering shares to local residents who wish to participate in this exciting opportunity. Our CSA farmer sells shares in her/his farm’s upcoming harvest to individuals, families or institutions. The share price goes toward the cost of growing and distributing a season’s worth of produce and paying the farmer a living wage. Each week, from June through November, the CSA farmer delivers the week’s share to a central neighborhood distribution site in NYC—usually a community center or house of worship. Members collect their food at their neighborhood sites. Typically, each week’s share consists of 7-10 types of vegetables, enough for a family of 2-3 people. Over the course of a season members get at least 40 different types of vegetables, usually organic.

How much does it cost?
Our share price is still being determined. It will most likely range from $19.00-$22.00 a week ($425.00-$450.00 for the season). Half shares are also available. Eventually we will even be able to accept food stamps. Members pay their season share before season begins.

Where and When will my vegetables be delivered?
Right now we are considering several locations between Prospect Avenue and 25th Street including the church on 17th between 4th and 5th Avenue. Our delivery day is Saturday from approximately 10am-1pm.

When does it start?
It starts in June!

How can I get involved?
The CSA runs exclusively with the participation of volunteers. We are currently seeking core leadership to help handle our finances, distribution and communication. We are also looking for new shareholders as this exciting project gets underway! Please contact us at [email protected].

There is a real desire for access to fresh food in Greenwood Heights. Our core leadership needs to be in place by April 14, 2007 in order to make all this happen. Please support your community!

I'm a little disappointed that the half membership means getting a full share every other week. If it was half the amount every week, I'd definitely do this.

Each week is enough for a family of 2-3. I probably would not use half of that each week and then go a week with nothing.

Anyone interested in splitting a full share for the year?

where is the pick up location? if someone from the CSA has a flyer for this year's memberships i can put it up in my building.

the website (www.greenwoodheightscsa.org) has more info, but the pickup is on 6th btw. 18th and 19th sts.

I believe they are taking 2008 memberships now.

Sorry that I missed your request. I've already signed up for the every other week share. I'll see how that works for me and maybe take you up next year if I'm still here.
