help with article: what's with the SlopeHate?
Subject: help with article: what's with the SlopeHate?
<x>Hi --
Hope you don't find this post to be out of line or an invasion of space. I'm writing an article for Time Out NY Kids exploring why people seem to hate Park Slope so much these days (witness David Brooks name-dropping it in a recent column, stuff on Gawker.com, lots of Slope-hate at places like Curbed.com, etc.). Wondering if anyone here is among the people who agree with the stereotypes of the Slope as smug, earnest, hippie/yuppie, etc., etc. Have you had to switch to a different cafe to avoid stroller gridlock or singalongs? Do you resent having been priced out of Fifth Avenue? Fourth, even? If so, I would love to hear from you. (Please note: I'm *not* trying to drum up unpleasantness here; just reporting on a topic & asking for some help! For the record, I'm a longtime Slope-resident/-lover ... but you won't hurt my feelings if you're not a fan.) If you'd like to speak to (or email with) me, please PM me and we'll take it from there. Thank you so much!

The problem with stereotypes, is that they're only true for the majority.

Easy to blame a 'nabe that has "evolved" i.e. gentrified, become more family based, less hipster, less ethnically & economically diverse, etc.
Cycles...it will come back around as one population ages out and another in.
Though in my POV, I do find their is an air of "entitlement" in certain sectors of the Slope that I do not understand...

Count me among those loving the neighborhood and hating the interlopers. My major problem is with that small but vocal minority who think they are super-privileged - those who believe that, by sheer financial wherewithal, family lineage, and accident of birth and geography, they should be accorded wide deference and access despite whatever hardship it may mean to others.

Okay, lets heat this thing up and turn it in to a real discussion now:
Examples, examples, examples...? Don't give us any junk either, we want the good stuff.
