Runners Monday 6/2: Check Out The Brooklyn Hash — Brooklynian

Runners Monday 6/2: Check Out The Brooklyn Hash

Start: Start: The Plaza Outside The Target At Atlantic Terminal

Transit: 2345BDQMNR To Atlantic-Pacific

In case you haven'tt heard of us, The Brooklyn Hash House Harriers is a group of runners who meet at a predetermined location in the Borough of Brooklyn. They are part of a loosely organized worldwide network of hashes, also known as a drinking club with a running problem. Some people run fast, others run slow. Actually, the same thing can be said about the drinking. It all depends on your ability and anyone is welcome, at least anyone 21 and older.

A member of the group (the hare) presets a trail using a system of chalk and flour marks along the way. The rest of the group tries to follow the trail, and if all goes well, they end up at a drinking establishment, have some refreshing beverages, and a bite to eat. Food and beverages are prearranged and each runner contributes “hash cash ” to pay their share. Trails are usually between 3 and 5 miles and the hare will bring your bag to the bar. Hashes are rain or shine. All of this will be explained to you at the start. If you want to find out more now, check out this page.

  • If this wasnt' on a Monday I would love to partcipate but I have an exam the next day. Good luck, wish I could be there.
  • cool, well we run every other monday and every wednesday in manhattan, so you are welcome whenever...
  • Steve,

This sounds great. I missed out tonight, but would love to take part in Manhattan or Brooklyn. I checked the site, and I can't figure out how to determine starting point for the runs!

Can you post the events on this space regularly?
  • Is the hash moroccan or lebanese?
  • Sarah...I will pm you some info but I always mean to post the Brooklyn Hash stuff on this board, though sometimes I don't....

    Prospect High....yawn...
  • Maybe when I get myself back into shape I will join you again. I'm coming off a one year break due to an injury and I doubt I could keep up...
  • nice - kinda like a running alleycat. i'll try to join the next one.
  • I'm reading the info and it makes no sense to me. You drink while running? You run somewhere to drink? You...drink and run at the same time? The concept is not quite sinking in. And then something about a trail and chalk and....oh my I am very confused.

I'm guessing things are fairly fast paced--I am, for better or worse, a slowpoke (despite 10 plus years of running). Will I get left in the dust?

Basically you run somewhere and drink. Generally, there are runners of all speeds real fast, real slow, and in between. Sometimes there are walkers too. We try to make new people comfortable as some trepedition is typical...
  • You go to a bar after running, all sweaty and in running clothes?
  • you got it!
