Acquiring Brooklyn Bus Schedules — Brooklynian

Acquiring Brooklyn Bus Schedules

I am pretty tech savvy, but when it comes to things like bus schedules, I want hard copies that I can spread across my livingroom floor and look at 6 different ones at one time. Thing is, as far as I know, the only way to acquire hard copy schedules is by riding each friggin bus. Any ideas how I can get all of the brooklyn bus schedules without spending my summer bus hopping?

And, while I am here...many of my friends live in Red Hook, and I, obviously, am here in the Heights. While on a lovely summer day it's a breeze to walk to Red Hook, the rest of the year I have to take the Q to the R to the F. I feel there MUST be a bus that gets me from here to there with less up-the-stairs-down-the-stairs train switching. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • no worries. go to mta.info click around for schedules and you can pick any bus line you want, save it to your hard drive and print it out.
  • I haven't found the schedules on the MTA's website very helpful. They only give you the times of certain bus stops. I ended up taking pictures of the schedules posted at the stops I use the most. I print them out and carry them in my bag. But I haven't been able to find schedules for specific stops anywhere online. I don't understand why the MTA can't have them available online. Maybe there are just too many stops. If anyone would like the B65 schedules for Franklin and Bergen, Dean and 5th Ave, or the B67 for 6th Ave and Flatbush, let me know!
  • The B71 will take you from just north of Grand Army Plaza (I catch it at Plaza and Vanderbilt) to Sackett and Hicks (used to go all the way to Van Brundt). It's even pretty good for just going to Caroll Gardens once you get the timing down. Goes across Union (with a detour south to 3rd St around the canal).
  • Thanks Sam! That is awesome!
  • Yeah, I'm all about the B71 too. It stops along Eastern Pkwy before it gets to GAP, so you can get it on the corner of EP and Underhill as well. From what I remember, though, it stops running around 10:00pm, so it's awesome to get you where you want to go, but you might have to find alternate route home.
  • You can pick up a Brooklyn bus map at the Brooklyn Library at Grand Army
  • Subject: b71

be advised the b-71 runs every only every 30 mins on weekends...you may want to double check that, but that was the timing the last time I rode it. I got stuck waiting for a while...thinking they were more frequent.

The B71 also stops running mad early, and the last bus of the night only goes as far as 5th Ave. BOOOO!!!!!!
I've been taking the B69 up Vanderbilt to work the last few months, and it's either 3 minutes early, or 15 minutes late. ](*,) So frustrating.
And why can't city bus drivers realize they work for us, and politely answer questions instead of getting defensive about their tardiness? Another example of crap customer service in this town.
  • If you are ever riding the 45 don't bother looking at the schedule...I think they purposely disregard it. My favorite is the sighting (every few weeks)of a "45 parade" with three buses within a block or two of each other.
  • You do not have to ride each bus to get a schedule. Many times they can be found in the subway station.
  • Ditto what Stella says. I found my bus map at the 15th St. Prospect Park station. Ask the booth attendant
