Anyone else hear a very loud boom at 5:30am around 5th ave at St John's this morning. It sounded like someone dropped a stick of dynamite in a storm drain, set off car alarms all down the street?

  • prey tell..maybe it was con ed!
  • I heard that too! It was very loud. I heard the car alarms too.
  • I heard it too, and I'm on Sterling and 5th. I figured it was maybe the garbage trucks or something, but if it was that far away and that loud...
  • You guys really need to chill out.... that was just me on my way home from J's 5th... you know, bringing the noise/bringning the funk -- puking on the sidewalk..
  • Could've been a manhole cover exploding. I heard one blow a few years ago after a heavy rain. It happened about a block away from my house at around midnight -- within about 60 seconds, all the neighbors were in front of their houses, mostly in various forms of nightclothes, trying to figure out whether it was Al Qaeda, a North Korean nuke, or the Rapture. The boom set off a whole chorus of car alarms, and the cover smashed a parked car. Some kind of fire also ensued -- I could smell the smoke and there were FDNY trucks all over the place, but I didn't feel like going into the battle zone in my jammies to investigate further.
