    Vera's Ice cream parlor - 5th Avenue & 5th Street

    I will keep thinking.
  • Thank you so much. Anymore you or anyone else can think of would be "greatly" appreciated. :D
  • At the corner of 100 7th avenue where Brown Harris Stevens now is used to be a langerie shop, excuse my spelling, and the original Purity restaurant used to be where Score currently is. Where aerosoles and the current vacant store are, used to be a Peter Reeves supermarket. The basement of the building where the Slope Fitness is located used to be a bowling alley.
The other corner building 92 7th Avenue, the corner store used to be the old Economy diner. Amin Indian restaurant used to be the Reyes Brothers hardware store. It was reputed to be a place that also sold drugs.
Going down on union street towards 6th avenue, you had Brownstone car service that was reputed to be a mafia front. The smal childrens clothing store used to be Danny's video store. The nail salon and NuNu gallery was once one store and the restaurant McFeeley's was in that space. In fact in the early eighties Kelly McGillis the actress used to be a waitress there.
The corner eye store on 7th and union was a chessy men's clothing shop that used to specialize in items that were "right off the truck."
The supersavers drug store on 7th avenue used to be a bar called LuLu's and was run by a character named "lefty".

The hunan garden chinese restaurant used to be a liquor store that my uncle Manny used to own.
I can't remember anything else right now. Hope this helps with your project.
  • Just remembered, my uncle's liquor store was called Ye Olde Liquor Shoppe.
248 5th avenue where Al Di La currently is located, used to be Nick's Pizzaria.
  • thanks for your help, any other information would be great :D and quite helpful in completion of the picture
  • I moved to PS in 1977, these are a few of the things that were around
    at that time.

I think the name of the ladies store on the corner of Union/7th was
    Kitty's.

The space that was Citibank was occupied by Pioneer Supermarket.
The space that is either the bagel store or Neergards on 7th, was Max Blatt Furs.

I remember the bar as being named Mooney's Pub.

One of the stores that is part of Back to the Land was Gazebo restuarant.

The International Deli, was Herzog Brothers Deli.

The two stores on the corner of Garfield and 7th that are and were
Koreans stores with flowers were bars, one was called the Stack of Barley.

Under Rancho Allegre there was a store that sold candy, papers, and toys.
    possibly Al's Toyland.

Where Pita Pan is was a Chinese take out place, pretty much the only
    Chinese place on 7th.

There was a bar on the 7th and Berkely, I don't remember the name,
but when the owner went fishing, they would sell whole fish on the
    sidewalk for $1.00 each.
