Cabinet door repair — Brooklynian

Cabinet door repair

I have an old cabinet door that needs one new pane of glass and a little repair--basically just putting the pieces back together so that they don't fall apart anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations of who to go to for this kind of work? Any idea how much I can expect to pay? Thanks.

  • There's a guy who has a workshop in a building I used to live in. He's a carpenter who builds cabinets but also does repairs. I happened to see him on 7th Ave a week or 2 ago and got his card. His name is Richard Weinstock, his number is 917-202-7123, and his email address is rweinst719 at aol.com.

I have no vested interest in his business, I just remember seeing alot of beautiful pieces coming out of his shop. Hope he can help!
  • My very cool and talented brother-in-law, Phil Sewell, does carpentry work. Here's his site:

    Yeah, I know I'm biased, but . . .
  • Richard Weinstock fixed a closet in our place. He forgot to put back the one of the shelves, which didn't fit anymore once he was finished. He became really annoyed when I pointed this out, as if it were my own fault.

He had to dismantle everything and do the job all over again. Then he forgot to take one of his tools with him and had to come back for it the next day. He's not going to put 2 and 2 together by himself.
  • Damn, modoki, that sucks! I only know he does repairs because it says it on his card. I just liked the pieces he made but it's good to know he might not be so good for repairs.
  • Thanks, everyone. I took the door to Hailejaa, the owner of the mailboxes place on Wash and Prospect Pl. (I found out he does woodworking from an earlier post here.) He gave me a very reasonable estimate ($50 if he has a piece of glass the right size, which he thinks he does). I'll let you know how it turns out.
