I was very aware of my accent and careful to say, fr'instance, 'Sa-tur-day' and 'Sun-day' as opposed to 'Sayrdy' and 'Sundee'. I pronounce "Saturday" with the "t" somewhere between a "t" and a "d", more towards the "d" in normal speech - "Sad-er-day", which it seems to me is how most people pronounce it.

Most people where? This word is spoken by approximately 2 billion people. I happen to pronounce it with a glottal stop, "sa!urday", a non-rhotic r, and a triphthong on the ay.

Hmmm , okay...silent "t" is how I think most people pronounce it....meaning this way:

Saturday = Sa-urday (real fast)

Water = wa-err

I think I hear a "d" sound.....kinda....I keep repeating the two , and now I am confusing myself here #-o ....I don't know how to explain ...come to game night and I'll show you both.

It's probably a small glottal stop. wa'err. There's a natural progression of dropping hard t (in British RP, almost never heard in the US) to softer d (normal in the US) to dropped ' (normal in various dialects, including Estuarine which is on the ascendency).
I get that, but it's very hard for me to imagine 'water' being pronounced that way in Michigan.

I'm seriously giving up being from anywhere. Once you've moved enough times, cities, continents, it no longer makes sense. As for pronunciation, mine has been mangled a few times (went from t to d to ' over the course of 20 years under different influences and I'm on the way back to d and being forced to learn a new third way for r); the main daily challenge in NY, with 2 in 5 born abroad, working out wft people are saying and trying say things in a way they might understand.

Maybe young people from Detroit dropping t could be the bleeding edge in consonantal drift.

Let me put it this way: Kylie and I may have grown up a few blocks from each other around the same time. But if you compared tapes of both of us (after removing the pitch tracking and sundry digital processing in her case) then our accents would be quite different these days, and someone who'd always lived in that neighborhood wouldn't pick either of us as a local.
