The Well Lounge=Negative Atmosphere
The Well Lounge at Flatbush and Prospect (formerly the chocolate monkey) is a nice open space with comfortable couches. However, that is as a good as it gets.
This weekend I went to see a friend of a friend's jazz band play at the lounge. The band had a contract to play from 9-midnight and their pay depended on drinks bought. However, a few hours before they were to play they were informed they could only play till 11 because a private party was coming. I came at 9:30, enjoyed nice music and drinks with friends but at 10:15 the management became extremely rude. The manager instructed the band they had to stop, rudely forced customers (the manager did not ask me politely- she demanded) to get off of the couches in order to take them away for this private party, proceeded to carry an 8 feet step ladder through the bar to hang curtains, and carry off tables currently holding patrons drinks! The manager was completely rude and apparently the band was not paid because there was an argument over the contract. I felt completely uncomfortable and there was absolutely no reason to treat customers this way. I would recommend never going here.

Holy shit, that's crazy!
Anybody remember that article (no, commercial dressed as a review) in one of the Brooklyn papers (too lazy to find the link...yo is there a moderator in da house?!?!) that had the woman (owner) talking all this shit about bringing freaking bottle service to Brooklyn!
Fat fuckin' chance.
Especially now- keep spreading the word ibliz05, it's like a virus. She'll eventually catch it..... -
UGH!
i heard about that gig at the last minute -- this was haleejaa's band, from fb enterprises, right? -- and couldn't make it because of other plans. i admit that well lounge already sounded wretched, but even i didn't think it would suck that much.
it pisses me off that she screwed over haleejaa. -
Yeah, it was haleejaa's band, they played so well but he seemed pretty disappointed in the place.
-
No way! Hailejaa is probably the wrong person to have dissed, considered everyone in the neighborhood knows him.
-
Chocolate Monkey sucked so why'd you think this place would be different?
-
omg. I'd actually been considering giving that place a chance - their menu looks nice, and I do enjoy calm, adult atmospheres (okay. and sometimes I don't. does anyone know how I got this massive bruise on my calf?)
but booting a band that is both the draw of your business at that particular time and dependent on the cash flow of the bar at that time is NOT cool. that's like having the shoe salesman at saks bring you 10 pairs of shoes and then buying a few pairs and saying someone else helped you. not done. -
And y'all bitch about Soda!?!?! Soda sounds like a home-cooked meal down south with auntie and uncle compared to this bottle-service snobbery called Well Lounge.
-
What more could you really expect from the owner of Muddy Waters?? Isn't this her outfit?? I wouldn't be surprised if she was the "manager" in question...SUCKS that Hialejaa and co. didn't get paid. He's the nicest guy in the neighborhood. A boycott is certainly in order!

I'm with ya! In fact, I already started - my boycott has been going on for... uh, how long have they been open, now? -
is it still considered a boycott if you never once were a customer of the business, or user of the product, which is being boycotted?
:? -
lets boycott soda for not having diet soda

i've talked to haleejah, and while we didn't discuss details, it was clear enough that whatever happened was this bad. -

People, we need to address the real issue here.
Haleejaa, Hailejaa, Hialejaa, Haleejah - which is it?
We need a consensus. -

Holy time warp batman!
My comment here would be that if the band had a contract to play from 9-12, that clearing the room at 10:15 was uncalled for. -

So it is your position then that if a band has a contract to play from 9-12, that clearing the room in order to "set up for another event" at 10:15 is proper? That isn't even halfway through the contracted time frame, and makes no sense.

Where are all these trust fund people. I have yet to meet one.
Seriously, I need some rich friends, someone to pick up the tab at moonies!!
(Mods, why don't you just delete the user and his comments?) -

I always trust that there are funds when I write a check, but I am often let down!

But not mine! Because I am desperately trying to STOP being Bruce Ratner's Love Child.
Goddamnit.
