Thanks for the info!
• Rapture wrote: Does anyone know if Rosenkranz has nitrous oxide available in his office??? Also, since he has all this new-fangled equipment, are his prices higher than other Park Slope dentists??
Rapture, as a patient of Dr. Rosenkranz i would have loved nitrous  but he does not have it. I have to tell you though i am a nitrous lover and i didnt feel a thing, he is very gentle. Price wise, i have insurance but friends i've referred who dont, seem to think he is well priced.
• Subject: another option

I can see that Dr. Rosenkranz is amazing. Glad to hear/read it.

For anyone on the 5th Avenue side of the Slope, I highly recommend Dr. Sapienza at the Dental Spa.

http://www.thedentalspany.com/

High Tech, Relaxing environment, Awesome and Gentle care.

He seems to accept most insurance policies.

Not using ALL CAPS to express my opinion, but you can be sure, he and his staff are the best you will find.
• Subject: Dr. Rosenkranz ROCKS!!!!

Wow... I never thought that i would say this but, going to the dentist was an absolute blast! After reading all of the wonderful reviews about Dr. Rosenkranz (and in drastic need of a dentist) I decided to try him out. He was even better than i read about. I called up to make an appointment and the secretary asked if i was a new patient to which i replied, yes. She put me on hold and then the mighy doctor himself came on the phone to greet me and take down all of my information! I have never had the actual doctor get on the phone...so basically he had me at hello... and when i arrived for my appointment with my fiance (who thought he didn't have dental insur.) Dr. Rosenkranz actually made 2 phone calls and surfed the internet to find my fiance's medical insurance and gave him a great deal!!! almost $200 off from what we originally thought. After that, I was taken to "the chair"... and I was immediately asked which dvd i would prefer... i went with Bill Cosby stand up (Hilarious by the way) and put it on the screen that was attached to the chair. He examined me and then he does the cleaning himself as well...amazing! The whole experience for me and my fiance were fantastic! We HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. ROSENKRANZ!

• Ok. I was already convinced to switch by all the Rosencranz raves, but now I need to vent about Gentle Dental. Don't go there!!!! They told me repeatedly that the procedures I was getting where 100 % covered by my insurance and then called me today to say that I owe them several hundred dollars. I am a poor grad student living off loans, so I don't know where they think I can get that much money from. I would never have had the procedure done had I know the truth from the start. No doubt I am the latest client they are loudly bashing throughout the office. Sorry for the rant, but really just so mad!

Scroll back up through this post.. I remember someone said good things about the peds dentist.
• I wasn't sure if everything i read was possible about the experience of visiting a Dentist, But to my surprise... It was !!! I am a new patient like some of you to Dr. Rosenkranz's office. It was the most relaxing visit ever to a dentist, and his charming personality kept my anxiety in check.

Serious Recommendation !!!!!
• For all of you who fear root canals.... FEAR NO MORE!!! I was in such pain and i needed a dentist to take a look at me... I read the threads on Dr. Rosenkranz and i gave the office a call to be seen as soon as possible... I was told to come over right away....Long story short the doctor told me those words you dont want to hear," YOU NEED A ROOT CANAL!!!" But to my surprise Dr. Rosenkranz's office had a root canal specialist ( which is called an endodontist - I LEARNED SOMETHING NEW  ) who took me in the next day and did the root canal ALL IN ONE PAINLESS VISIT!!!! Have to say i was really satisfied... thanks to all for the recommendations...

MOD NOTE: a reminder to BEWARE OF SHILLERS

all post from the same IP address. all recommending the same dentist.
• that kinda sux if there were so much shilling (would say something about the integrity of the dentist himself if he was the one doing it)...but i'm banking on the non-shiller reviews.

I made an appointment with him over the phone because I was in alot of pain over the New Year's and probably will need a root canal and I really don't mind a more gentle dentist. I go to Gental Dental now and I really like their dentists (friendly and assuring) and their staff is always happy and friendly but I hated their hygienist. Really rough and kinda weird. After a couple of times with her, I told them I wanted the dentist not the hygienist to do the cleaning for me and they gladly obliged. But knowing that there's another dentist could be better (with more entertainment to distract me from the whole procedure), I'm tempted to make the switch.

I left a message on New Year's day itself and Dr. Rosenkranz called back personally and told me he could see me on an emergency basis. But the pain went away today so I scheduled an appointment for next Sunday instead. He was incredibly friendly over the phone, very all-about-the-customer kinda service. So we'll see after my appointment and I'll definitely post about my experience there because I find all these reviews really helpful.

I just hope the shillers would stop because it'll just hurt the dentist's business and take away credibility. If he's really that good, I'm sure people will say enough good things about him to generate more referrals without unnecessary shilling.
• oh and on that note, does anyone have any tips on asking for your x-ray records from your old dentist to give to a new one? I feel a little embarrassed about asking because I'm thinking of making a switch. Also I'll have to cancel an appointment that I already made a few months ago with the old dentist. As I mentioned before, it's not that the old dentist was bad, I'm actually pretty happy with them, only I wanna try someone that -could- be better, so I'm not looking to burn any bridges here.
• actually i have a wireless router and multiple people in my building share the expense so the IP can be the same. and based on reviews that i've read they have been having the same pleasant exprience that i had, but shilling does suck! good luck to you KEL.
• Yes, I'm sure all 7 enthusiasts of this dentist live in your building...
• Subject: slope dentists

Don't know about all this mess you guys are talking about.

I have been going to this practice for some time and was always very satisfied.

In fact I was just there for a re-do of a root canal I had done elsewhere many years ago. The endo was top notch!

I can finally drink my starbux without the pain.

Cheers
• It's always suspicious when there's a whole slew of people who have never posted about anything else on this site who suddenly felt compelled to register and share their feelings about one business, especially when so many of these posters are posting from the same IP. Nothing against you- you may in fact be a satisfied customer. But I'm going to weigh an opinion from someone who's posted here before like daver (who I know for a fact is a neighbor and not a shill) more heavily than someone who just registered and has only posted about this.

I couldn't agree with you more!

This site is invaluable when it comes to sharing positive and negative experiences about available services in the neighborhood but for goodness sakes... give some credence to those people who moderate the site and have seen the good, bad and the ugly!
• Subject: just finished total smile makeover by Dr. Robert Rosenkranz

I am a new poster but waited till I completed my entire smile makeover before commenting on my experience and satisfaction.
I had a problem with having several baby teeth without adult teeth underneath. I eventually required extractions-which Dr. Rosenkranz performed flawlessly and without pain-no need for nitrous oxide. Having several spaces in my mouth it quickly became apparent that my teeth began to shift and something had to be done. Dr. Rosenkranz recommended Invisalign which worked wonders. I had braces when I was much younger but Invisalign was a piece of cake in comparison and helped straighten out all my teeth to prepare me for the next step. I used Dr. Rosenkranz's periodontist to place several implants-which was far easier than I expected. Finally after completing Invisalign and having my implants healed Dr. Rosenkranz completed my restorations in a most artistic fashion. The teeth that he prepared for me were expertly inserted to allow me a perfect bite, which I never had before. Lastly, to give me the brightest smile, he prepared for me in the office special whitening trays which are very easy to use and are working out super.
I myself am a physician and aside from trying to render the best care possible, I needed to project a great smile upon greeting everyone of my patients. I was always concerned about my appearance, until now. One of the nurses that assists me with my procedures ( I am a Gastroenterologist) commented that I have a million dollar smile. I sure felt great after that comment and have not stopped smiling since. Let me sum up that Dr. Rosenkranz really cares about the care that he renders. He goes out of his way to give the best possible result and he himself is really proud of his final product. He also is very carefully about doing it without pain. No need for Nitrous. I prefer to be fully awake and aware of what is going on-in a pain free environment. Good luck to all who use Dr. Rosenkranz-you will really appreciate the experience and the final result. Dr. S. M.
• Oh dear Lord.. I pray that Smosk is NOT a spammer..

That posting made me want to call this dentist asap!
• No idea about the shiller thing, but my wife and I have both been to Dr. Rosenkranz and we both agree that he's the best dentist we've ever been to. He's extremely nice, friendly, caring and did a great job of making us comfortable. He actually made going to the dentist a pleasant experience. We both highly recommend him. Dr. Rosenkranz is the best!
• Subject: Best Dentist in Park Slope

I just had my teeth cleaned by Dr Rosenkranz and yes the man did it himself. I think the reason you see so many over-the-top love notes is that we are all so used to being treated like cattle by our dentists and doctors. When you meet someone kind and personable who really wants to help you feel better and have fun in the process--it is truly a shock to the system. You want to just shout it out!
• So the hype was true. I went to Rosenkranz for a cleaning last night. First of all, in all his phone calls with me, he was uber friendly. When I went there, he was all smiles and shook my hand to welcome me. It was all very VIP service. Maybe I was there at 6pm on a weeknight, but there wasn't anyone else in the office then. I think he schedules people one by one on the hour, so I didn't feel like I was in a dental 'factory'. At Gentle Dental, there were always a few people waiting outside and multiple people working there. At Dr. R's it was only him and his assistant at that time, so it felt like I'd have a lot of one-on-one attention.

He seemed very knowledgeable. Even before looking at my x-rays, and just looking at my teeth, he knew (a) I had braces done before and (b) where I often get food stuck. I guess those are pretty obvious to all dentists, but it was nice to hear it from him so there's a level of empathy.

When he took x-rays, he was super gentle. It was a VAST difference from when I took x-rays at Gentle Dental, when the lady was shoving the plates in my mouth roughly and kept telling me to bite down when I couldn't and I was gagging. Dr. Rosenkranz did it slowly and gave me little instructions like breathe thr' the nose so I won't gag (good mini tip that actually helped).

Then he put that big LCD screen in front of me and went through the problems/issues in my teeth thoroughly, changing the colors on the screen so i could see better, etc. I think he explained to me my teeth for a good 10-15min. Granted, the dentists at Gentle Dental did that with me as well, but maybe not as thoroughly.

Then the cleaning. I have some problems (fillings very close to nerves) so I wouldn't say the cleaning was 100% painless. It still grates me to hear the high-pitched sound of the scraper thingy (I need to request earplugs next time), but it was less loud than the ones at Gentle Dental. And Dr. Rosenkranz kept asking me if it hurt or if I was okay before proceeding. When he went to places he knew would hurt a little, he warned me first and kept assuring me "okay, this will hurt but I'm just gonna be a little while". All the while, his assistant would hand me tissues really politely with both hands (VIP service) and dab my face gently when it would get splashed. It was all kinda over-the-top, but hey! Better than that crazy hygienist at Gental Dental where the top part of my shirt was SOAKED with water after the session, where she kept saying stuff like "it's not THAT painful, issit?" making me feel like a wuss. She was brutal.

NOTE: I've said this before...it was only that crazy hygeinist and the assistant that shoved the xray plates into my mouth that I don't like about Gentle Dental. Their dentists however were super nice and super gentle. I had a cleaning session with a dentist and she WAS really gentle...so if you go there, just make sure you request that the dentist does your cleaning.

After the cleaning, he polished my teeth. I didn't get that at Gentle Dental and the polishing felt reeeal nice...like someone else brushing your teeth for you...a gum massage. My gums felt kinda sore from the scraping, so Dr. Rosenkranz gave me a solution to rinse for 1 min and it felt perfect after. He told me that it'd be good if I used that solution (Rx only) for 10days twice a day. It was $15. Another great thing he did was that he didn't seem like he was PUSHING a product just to make money. He told me that he could write a prescription for me to get someplace else, or he had it in his office. It'll all be the same co-pay price, and it was up to me, no pressure.

I had a severe toothache 2 weeks ago (hence me calling Dr. R) but the pain subsided. He checked on it, explained what happened (metal filling too close to nerve) and said he didn't wanna rush into a root canal but suggested I see a gum specialist first (which was what Gentle Dental also told me but never really followed up with a referral), and he had a guy that goes to his office on Sundays so he made an appointment. Made me feel like he really wanted to survey what caused the pain first before jumping into a root canal.

All in all, an A+ experience. He mentioned that someone told him about an online forum raving about him and he got 300 new patients from this and that he appreciates all the referrals but he works very very hard for it. I can tell. I don't know if there were really shillers from his office or not, but from my personal experience, the hype was true. It was at times over-the-top (like he would ask repeatedly if he could do anything for me, etc), but really, that can't be a complaint, can it?

My only complaint: that LCD screen in front played Fox News when I was there. Who watches that crap? Yeesh.

He's a very good dentist, very knowledgeable and thorough. Clean efficient office. Thanks to the original poster for posting his info.

I guess he had FOX on cause it's the No. 1 cable news program. Geez, do you think everyone in PS watches CNN?

CNN is just as bad (why is Britney, Anna Nicole all over the friggin' "breaking news" section when there are more important things to report about?). And if Fox is the #1 cable news program, I'd like to vomit please (the most slanted, sensationalist, fear-mongering news channel). But let's not turn this thread into one about the quality of "big news media" and the demise of "objective journalism" in America...
• after reading all the dentist reviews, and being new to the neighborhood, i took some of the advice and went with kids to see Dr. Rosenkranz and his pediatric dentist on friday. GREAT EXPERIENCE !!! THX
• Add one more rave for Dr. Rosenkranz from me. I went to him to get a checkup and a cleaning, I could not have been happier with him, his tech, and his receptionist. His receptionist (Natalie?) was a total sweetheart and his tech (I've forgotten his name) was great. I've never had x-rays done without those stupid things cutting into my cheek or the roof of my mouth. But this guy was fabulous, it wasn't uncomfortable at all.

Dr. Rosenkranz introduced himself to me as soon as I approached the front desk. He also checked with my insurance about the x-rays to see what they would pay for since I had one done when I had my wisdom tooth removed 2 months ago. He wanted to make sure I didn't have to pay anything for them and suggested I get a copy of the other one. I liked him immediately, he's very personable and friendly. It was the best cleaning I've ever had, didn't hurt once and he explained what he was doing. I couldn't have been happier with the whole experience and I highly recommend him.
• I went to Dr. Rosenkranz too, and he did a good job cleaning my teeth. The office is very nice and clean. All new equipment; some things still wrapped in protective plastic sheet (like the handles of the dentist light etc.) What made me smile, since it's been a while since he opened his office.

The video/dvd thing mentioned in this thread a few times is slightly exaggerated. I don't know what I have expected after reading all these posts, but there was just this tiny PC screen, where he shows the x-rays and a few outdated dvd's compressed with divx. All good for anxious children, but nothing special to rave about.

Anyway, does anybody went to Dr. Rosenkranz's periodontist, David Kallus D.M.D? I have an appointment tomorrow and would like to know, if it is common to charge an initial consultation fee? I have full coverage with my insurance (MetLife) and I have never been asked for any kind of extra fees (I went to Dr. Levy in Manhattan before).

Thanks in advance and I appreciate any other suggestions you may have regarding great periodontist in the city.
• Just because of the shilling, thought I would check in again. I don't know anything about the periodontist, sorry. We have been back to Rosenkranz a few more times at this point, and have continued to have very good experiences. The prices seem incredibly high, but I'm guessing that they are probably similar to any dentist. My insurance covers it all, so I don't worry about it. He collected a $100 deductible, like he was supposed to, then the insurance company reimbursed him in full. He called me to let me know and sent me a $100 check in mail, since I am in CH and didn't want to schlep over to pick it up. He hasn't seemed to push questionable costly things on us, like some previous dentists have, so I feel good about that.

Anyhow, I would continue to recommend him to anyone. :D
