Classifieds?
Does anyone here read the classified board? I had stuff listed on craigslist and wanted to give a discount to PH folks so I posted here. Within minutes my post had been moved to the Calssifieds board, which only bugged me because I wasnt notified of the move and had to hunt down the post myself. Other than that I understood why it was moved. But then I realized the only reason I ever looked at the classifieds board was to see if anyone had replied to my post. It seems like once the post was moved, the views count stopped.
How can any of us offer special things to our fellow PHers if all the offers get moved to a board that isn't as regularly read?

I take quick glances at the board, but if I don't see an intriguing title, I don't view the thread. I think that you'll get fewer views there, but 'better' views.

And I've just moved this, as well, as it's of interest to readers beyond PH.
The reason that the Classifieds board was created was because the boards became so clogged with ads that they became really difficult to read. Some people just want to chat about their neighborhood, not shop, and shouldn't have to go through posts that exist to make money for the OPs. Furthermore, ads were our #1 crossposting problem--people would post them on every neighborhood board, driving users nuts and getting the OPs flamed in some cases. So we created a single place for them all to go.
Yes, you probably get fewer views this way. But the point of this board isn't to help people sell stuff, and, as WhyFi points out, people who read that board are interested in buying stuff. -
Hey Emily:
First off, thank you for at least notifying me that my post was moved this time.
Secondly, I totally understand that the message board would be overrun by posts about stuff for sale, so the Classsifieds board makes sense—but to move this post, which I posted because I wanted the opinion of the other people who read the PH board specifically, seems ridiculous to me. Sure, people who read other boards may find it relevant, but frankly, if I wanted to know just any NYers POV, I would have posted on a NY Times message board, or somewhere that gets a broader audience. I posted on the PH board b/c I wanted the PH regulars to answer. I keep up with the PH board and have begun to learn about the different personalities that participate in that board and wanted to start a discussion with them. By moving this original post somewhere else, I lost my desired audience.
So while I don't really care enough this time around to ask you to move it back, in the future will you take this in to consideration before you move people's posts? Thanks.:) -
Again, I'm not sure where the "desired audience" comes into it. There are real estate agents who would no doubt love to post on every board and get lots of eyeballs, but that's not how it works. Also, I don't see where a NY Times messageboard comes into it, if we're discussing the rules of Brooklynian.
Your post comes off as a disingenuous attempt to (1) direct traffic back to your ad and/or (2) complain about the mods. Therefore, it belongs here, and I don't think there's much to take into consideration about it. -

EmmaViz, it's just the way this site works.

There's a rule that most of us like - posts about posting have got to go in ASK BROOKLYNIAN. Just like posts about selling things go in the free Classifieds board.

Exactly. Yes, there are fewer views of the Classifieds board and this board. That's because the neighborhoods this site serves are the primary focus of the overall site, and thus the neighborhood boards get the most traffic. The users of this site come here to exchange information and opinions about their neighborhoods, not to serve as anyone's marketing test audience.
