studios or one bedrooms or rooms in great spaces, anyone? — Brooklynian

studios or one bedrooms or rooms in great spaces, anyone?

i am a 6 year resident of the nieghborhood and am looking for housing that is under 1400 for one person- is there such a thing anymore without brokers? i hate brokers, and they are desperate, now more than ever, because the internet can basically evaporate their purpose off the face of real estate if people got a little wiser- that's what i am trying to do here? any great landlords with beautiful spaces in need of a charming, and employed young guy to take a lease on in the neighborhood? let me know!

thanks,
jason

  • I just moved to PS. I found a place here for $1300 without a broker. It's a "large" studio. I saw lots of apts--most with brokers and a few by owner. One of the owners I met was a little sketchy...

I found it on Craig's List---where else---under apts by owner.

    GL!
  • ^^OMG, you give me hope!

i can spend about 1300 (including most of utilities), but my problem is i just CAN'T FIND ANYTHING!! craigslist is VERY competitive! i have to find something by december and i'm getting scared...
  • in my experience going through a broker was the only way to find a cheap apt.

and trust me. i no likey brokers
  • Don't give up hope. I hear of stuff like that all the time. If you can get to an owner direct, it's certainly *possible* to avoid brokers and find something in that range.
Put your own ad up on craigs and see if anyone bites - I rented once that way.

But if you're trying to do this all by internet it seems less likely; walking around whatever neighborhood you're looking in might be required.

I am an owner and have an interesting space in an interesting place, Sunset Park. I have a first floor 1 bedroom apt. for $1,400. It's going on Craigslist next week (via a nice broker); reply to me to beat the potential crowd at [email protected]. --Mike
