scratched graffitti on cars, 8th ave 20th

a few night ago, 6 cars on our block were defaced, keyed, scratched, with some having graffitti scratched into the paint. the letters "RL" were discernable, which i think refers to "Reyes Locos," the crazy kings, which i've since gathered is a latin "gang" (group) in the hood.

has anybody else had their cars defaced recently? cops were no help, as perps were long gone. it happened sometime between 10:00pm and 8:00 a few nights back.

storeowner in nabe thinks it might be a group of latin kids (puerto rican/dominican) that live over on 17th or prospect place, which would make sense as they would pass through 8th ave on their way over the expressway.

anybody seen anything?

it's a total bummer. a few nights before that, a neighbor had his car broken into a lots of stuff for his work stolen.

I will check in with them as well, not good. Did you call the 72nd directly?

Also a 311 call would be in order. That gets back to the 72nd as well.

You mean Prospect Avenue, not Prospect Place? There are tons of kids hanging around but also lots of adults watching them. I haven't noticed anything that looks like "gangs" around here at all.

sorry, i meant prospect ave. one of the neighbors spoke to the police. i did not call them directly. he also called 311 but said they were not at all helpful. i'll send jeremy laufer an email alerting him to the problem. i was hoping somebody might have seen something, as i doubt the police (even if they respond) will be of much use.

what's the word on the street re the "Reyes Locos." anybody know anything about them? are they real, or is it a kiddy-crewe of teens vandalizing stuff.
