  • They tie the baby strollers wih the babies on the back of the boats and use them as water skis.
  • i thought they tie the babies use babies where the figure heads go for good luck.

You have got to get off the crack, son.
  • The GYC is a pretty tight space to bring a stroller into. It's also a pretty loud place. I wouldn't bring children there. Great burgers on the grill though, must be the babies they mix in, yum!
  • I would not bring any helpless creatures that cannot fend for themselves there.

The GYC's bathroom is known as the pit of doom.[/img]
  • Ended up sitting at the entrance with stroller, enjoying a beer.

Witnessed something cool, though. About 6 marines came in (Fleet Week), and two different groups of people offered to give up their table for them, and then three others stood up to cover their tab. The bartender at GYC said the bar already has it taken care of. Nice.
  • Please don't ruin my favorite bar with babies.
  • Oh, shut up.
  • When my son was four we spent an entire afternoon one Memorial Day weekend there with some friends. At some point my son drifted over to a table with two punk couples playing cards. My son hopped up on one chick's mini-skirted and ripped fishnets lap and started playing cards with them. I asked if they were cool with it, they said yeah and so I bought them two pitchers of beer. Two hours later, my kid was best of friends with the tattooed and pierced couples, and when a Mr. Frosty truck pulled up in front of the bar one of the girls went and bought my kid an ice cream. This is why I love Brooklyn...
  • Whatever, the place is too small for strollers, packed with smokers, and for crying out loud it's a bar, not a daycare center and not the freaking Tea Lounge. I wouldn't even bring a dog in there, nevermind a child. I thought crossing the Gowanus meant the possiblity of escape from the stroller brigade.
  • You'll find plenty of posts on the kids vs. bars debate herein...kind of a dead topic at this point...yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnn!
  • I initially thought the post was a joke.

Which is why I was considerate and sat at the table off to the side just inside the entrance out of everyone's way while my spouse sat with our friends. The half-dozen patrons who stopped to say hi and take a peek at my kid didn't seem to mind - guess you weren't one of them.

Oh, and there were 2 dogs in there too.

    It's all a joke, yes...

Very mistaken...that nabe crawls with the tot-havin' set...and curiously people don't seem to be that bent out of shape over it...

    THIS IS STROLLLLAAAAAA!
  • The anti-stroller posse has to be the lamest sub-culture around. And it's no surprise the world is turning into the selfish, angry place with that attitude around. You know what piece of real estate is yours, anti-stroller posse? Your apartment/brownstone. That's it. Maybe a porn shop as they don't allow anyone under 18 in the joint. Aside from that, shut it.
  • Oh, give the parents a bit and they'll be clamoring for a baby-friendly porn store!

I tend to agree with you here, but I will say that I find it inappropriate/inconsiderate to bring babies/children to outdoor areas where secondhand smoke is prevalent. As an adult, I fully expect to be subjected to smoke when I sit in an outdoor area of a bar. Although I'm not a smoker, I would want to enjoy my right to do so in a beer garden without feeling as if I'm contributing to a child's lung disease.
  • The banning of indoor smoking was probably one of the biggest boons to parents wanting to grab a beer with tots in tow.* I don't feel any problem with smoke in a large outdoor area, whether it be a bar patio or stretching out at a Celebrate Brooklyn concert surrounded by people smoking all matters of things. I usually find spaces at outdoor areas where even non-smoking adults congregate so I think the smoking thing cuts across the generations. I find 99% of people ask me if it's alright if they're smoking at an adjacent table and I always oblige.

The guideline I use is if the place serves food, it serves kids. If the place doesn't hassle me or the kids, I double my tips. I take a place as far away as possible from other patrons, just as I would if me and the wife were out alone and I wanted to fire up. Even McSorely's (one of the oldest bars in the city and a place that didn't even allow women in until the late 60s/early 70s) welcomes kids, and the bartenders seem to have a ball with them during the lunch hours.

    * And before folks jump on the pro/anti smoking thing, I do smoke but not around my kids and not indoors.

I think a lot of people worry too much about what they might do to harm a child and that's why they're all uptight about sharing spaces. Smoking, boozing, cursing, etc. --- I wouldn't worry. If a parent brings a kid to an establishment, they do --- or should --- expect all of the above. So don't worry about it so much. And a little cigarette smoke is probably nothing compared to the pollution in the city air filling up the kid's lungs every day.
