Charles Nelson Reilly dies at 76 — Brooklynian

Charles Nelson Reilly dies at 76

Although he grew up in the Bronx, not Brooklyn, this guy was a true character. I had the chance to see his one man show "Save It for the Stage: The Life of Reilly" at the Irish Rep Theater on 22nd Street a few years ago and he was wonderful.

He had a tough life but always seemed to land on his feet. This is a true loss to the theater community.

Did anybody ever see him on Broadway? He had multiple Tony and Emmy nominations. I hope he's remembered for more than just "Match Game" (but he was a riot on that).

  • Besides the Match Game shenanigans, go to You Tube and look up is "Bic Banana" pen commercial.
    Says it all.
  • first paul lind, then charles, who's next, rip torn?
  • Am I the only one who assumed he was already dead?
  • I think you mean Rip Taylor, the wild-haired, mincing caricature, not Rip Torn of Larry Sanders fame...

  • in his one man show, he made several references to the fact that he was not dead at the time he was performing it. he was acutely aware that when people saw that he was performing somewhere, they would say "I thought he was dead." He had a lot of fun with that.

I believe his one man show may be available on DVD.
  • Rip Taylor will out live us all. I'm putting my money on Ruth Buzzi and Jo Anne Worley.

Don't forget Phyllis Diller. She's still got her wits about her and she must be well into her 80s
  • Turtle95, ditch the hyena avatar and get a turtle.
  • CNR was a real gentleman. Met him one time and he treated me like I was the famous guy. Rest In Peace.

    i always get them confused.

now, which one is dead and which one is undead?

I think they're both still alive.
  • it's actually a dingo, not a hyena. Pet turtles can cause Salmonella infections, so I have to stick with the dingo.

Doris Day is still alive, she's another great star with a lot of class.
