  • I know this musician.. If you like Jazz.. this could be a cheap have a beer and hear some good music event

I have heard that the food is not memorable at this place but I haven't tred it as an eating location. Sounds like it might be better as a music venue.
  • The food and service are pretty mediocre.
  • It's a great location. Too bad about the food. This place has gotten savaged by everyone who's reviewed it. I wanted it to be good, but the burgers weren't great--which is damning for a restaurant with Burger in its name (kind of like how it's terrible that the biscuits at Biscuit suck).
  • The fries have improved since they opened. Still not great, but at least
they are edible. They were steak fries with the skins on, not the cardboady frozen ones they served in December.
  • Well I am gonna be there thurs nite for the music and have a beer and after Reader's suggestion order a side of fries to test this place. Improved is not a 5 star rating but need something to go along with the drink.

This Thursday I'll be playing piano with Jan Leder on flute(http://janleder.com)and Ray Parker on the bass. Saturday, it's Charley Krachy on tenor sax and Ed Fuqua on the bass. We'll be playing standards, some Monk, Tristano, Bird, and originals. Come out and support live jazz in your neighborhood.

  • Service was absolutely terrible over Memorial Day weekend. Manager sat flipping through papers while serving staff of 2 inadequately waited on a full restaurant. We finally walked out after waiting half an hour for our order to be taken.
  • This place really does have lousy service. We were there on Memorial Day and came in, got seated. There were two tables beside us that had already been seated. We had our order taken first and had received our food before the other tables even got their drinks. There didn't seem to be enough bus staff to help prep tables, serve water, etc. and a guy who looked like he might be the manager just kept pacing back and forth doing nothing, but he would go behind the counter and just stand there. The waitress we had was nice but she was overwhelmed. Have been there three times and not impressed. On the flip side it's great that they are providing a venue for jazz. Johnny Mack's should do that...they have better service and great burgers.
  • This Thursday (6/14)I'll be playing with Joe Solomon bass, and Kurt Stockdale tenor.
Support live jazz in Park Slope.
  • For me this is about going to this place to support Jazz. I stopped in on Thursday and Sat Nite..Sat nite it was a bit of a scene early because of the location in proximity to the Gay Parade but later in the evening I sat at the var and listened to some great Jazz and had a sweet wonderful time. It seemed like the other people sitting at the bar were also listening to the music and their prime directive was to not hit on me!! Great!! Safe and lovely feeling. I will be there on Thursday, not ordering a Burger... sitting at the Bar and looking comfortable and confident as a ParkSlope Woman who is not looking to be hit upon but to hear some Jazz and have a good time.
  • Johnny Mack's should do that...they have better service and great burgers.
NO! Johnny Mack's is the perfect place to go for a mellow, low-key meal or drinks. It doesn't need to be crapped up with jazz music or other "entertainment."

I see jenni's point here. If I want to go out to a dinner where the food is what the experience is going to be about I don't need to be entertained.

What's your secret? I need a better look when I want to sit at a bar and be left alone. Seems like as soon as I get comfortable some asshole decides to come over and start talking shit. Really annoying!

Well I bet you are a hot chick!! And I am past the age of hot chickness... That is basically my secret. But age brings other problems..Now if I get hit on it is by someone who is old enough to be my father and that is quite old..LOl!
  • Am I the only one checking you out, Veets?

Don't worry Gary, Virg, Kurt, and Ed. I still love you even if you are crapping up my Burger Bar.
  • O.K. Raw.. you can now admit it.. The Burger Bar is one of your favorite restaurants.... and you don't need music to proove it!! Lol!! You are too funny.. Well stop by and I will be the older lady sitting at the Bar.. all alone.. happily!!
  • except I heard the Burger Bar was closed by the DOH. True?
  • No Kirby.. It is one of the few that has not been shut down by the DOH!!
  • The space that was the original Minnow Resturant has a DOH notice posted. I noticed it in the window this morning.
  • Another one bites the dust!
  • I started this discussion about Hazz at the Burger Bar and as I read all the replies, no one mentions the music, only the food and the service. I know there have been problems, at times, with both, but my problem is getting Park Slope residents interest in supporting the live music. The restaurant is doing great until the evening hours so I guess people are really liking the food.. There is no cover or minimum so drop by Thursdays and Saturdays from 9-1 and check out the music. Here's the upcoming cast of characters.
6/21 Kurt Stockdale tenor sax, Charles Sibirsky piano, Dan Shuman bass
6/23 David Farrrer alto sax, Fred Gilde piano, Josh Paris bass
6/28 Gary Levy alto sax, C.S. piano, Joe Solomon bass
6/30 Anders Nilson guitar, C.S. piano, Dan Shuman bass
7/5 David Farrrer alto sax, Fred Gilde piano, Josh Paris bass
7/7 Gary Levy alto sax, Virg Dzurinko piano, Alex Gressel bass
7/12 Kurt Stockdale tenor sax, C.S. piano, Ray Parker bass
7/14 John Merrill guitar, C.S. piano, Dan Shuman bass
7/19 Anders Nilson guitar, C.S. piano, Dan Shuman bass

Never mind. I just reread the thread and saw that you identified yourself as him in your first post. I have no problem with you promoting your own shows as long as you disclose that that's what you're doing.

    Carry on.
  • Burgers are mediocre but tolerable for me. My bigger problem is a very lousy beer selection. 5 taps at best, and frequently 4 or less, and they don't change.
  • Had you checked my website, slopemusic.com, you would have known everything about me. Now, who are you?
  • he's one of the moderators
  • Hey Charles.. we respect out moderators... be nice!!

Moderators watch out for the looney tunes who show up here from time to time..
Even though you are a musician we can suppose you are not a nutcase.. right??
  • He didn't identify himself, Veets.
