Brooklyn Matters screening every Friday @7pm — Brooklynian

Brooklyn Matters screening every Friday @7pm

edited November -1 in Park Slope
This advocacy doc about the Atlantic Yards project is really worth a look...
FREE screening in Park Slope, every Friday for the next two months.

The screening is free, but donations to Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn
are very welcome at the door, and are greatly needed to help defray
DDDB legal costs. We will also be selling DVD's of the film ($20) and
encourage you to have your own home screenings with friends, neighbors
and family.

It would also be very helpful if you made reservations in advance as
seating is limited: 718.408-3234.
mod note: I'm going to sticky crosspost this for a few days to the AY surrounding communities.

  • Pitu, why is it that these screenings are always located in yuppie outposts like Park Slope and Fort Greene? If the AY opposition is as widespread as has been contended, then why not host screenings in Bay Ridge, Mill Basin, East Flatbush or Brownsville? It seems to me that you're limiting your audience.
  • my guess is that it's in a neighborhood that will be directly and heavily affected by atlantic yards. but again, just a guess. :)

why yes . . . thank you LeffertsGirl!

Now Jack, stop calling names and set up a screening of your own. Or contact the filmmakers and arrange one. For all I know, there *are* screenings in those other neighborhoods a little further from AY, and you and I just don't know about them because we don't live there. I didn't make this film, nor do I have anything to do with Spoke The Hub, btw.
  • I saw the film a few weeks ago -- definitely something every Brooklynite should see. Shocking and disturbing facts about the plan, the way it's been promoted, etc. Eye-opening and persuasive.
  • yes i saw it sat. nite at a church on atlantic ave. Definitely worth checking out even if you have followed the story closely.
  • Is it possible to get a DVD of this movie? Would like to see it. Thanks!

Yes, I think so. They'd have to be crazy not to!
    Google DDDB and/or "Brooklyn Matters"
  • Hey look at that, they've got a web site... http://www.brooklynmatters.com/

Even more screenings that are close by. Cool! Why didn't I think of Google? Must be a Monday thing, brain is not working yet.

FYI, there will be a screening of Brooklyn Matters on June 20th at St. Gregorys RC Church, corner of St. Johns Place and Brooklyn Ave., at 7 PM. Sponsored by the Crown Heights North Association. Admission is free.
  • I care less about people getting forced out of their apartments for the Atlantic Yards Project and more about people getting forced out of the apartments by the lack of rent laws in which landlords can increase rent as high as they please. The costs of renting and owning are out of control. We could all be homeless soon.
  • Has anyone been to a screening at Spoke the Hub before? I intend to go today sans reservation - will I make it in?
  • Update: I made it in without a problem. The film is definitely worth watching!
  • It's Friday . . .
    It's really worth seeing!
