New to the Heights

Um. My opinion would be that's not part of Prospect Heights. Prospect Heights ends at Washington Avenue.

It's garbage. It smells. The produce is awful. Even staple foodstuffs there are inconsistent. (They have the most elaborate selection of soy milk in the neighborhood. But I couldn't even find a single jar of plain sweet relish there once. And I never know what brand of bread they'll have in stock from week to week. Weird.) I live near it so I end up there more than I would otherwise, but you're better off doing the bulk of your shopping elsewhere. Key Food on Washington near Eastern Pkwy is kinda, meh. But it's better than CTown if you want to keep it close. Otherwise, schlep from Flatbush or use Fresh Direct (if you're ballin' like that).

Really? I'm surprised, but on this board we use Washington as the border usually, so I'm moving your post to the CH board, where you might get more answers.

Next month I'm moving from Underhill & Dean to Franklin & Dean, and I hate to think that I'm going to have to lug groceries all the way from Vanderbilt or Flatbush just to get anything decent. Surely there is another grocery store worth shopping at closer to Franklin?? What about just north towards Fulton?

There's a sizable on Fulton just off Dean. Produce is much better now--more fresh stuff, more variety. They have tofu, soy milk, organic milk (no organic produce or not much), have some veggie burgers, etc.

Ah good. So wait, it's on Fulton and where? And it's a Key Food, Met, what? Not concerned about organic choices so much as just being able to get fresh produce and good selection.

Hey while I've got your attention, anyone have suggestions for laundromats around Franklin and Dean? I've been spoiled with a washer/dryer in my apt for the past 5 years!

The Super Food Town on Brooklyn Ave and Fulton is worth the walk, in my opinion. It has everything and then some.

The KeyFood on Fulton between Franklin & Bedford is pretty convenient when getting off the C train at Franklin on the way home and has decent produce (much much better than when I moved here 8 years ago). The KeyFood on Nostrand & St. Marks is bigger and pretty decent--seems to have nice produce, although I don't shop there much, my mother-in-law does. Since we have a car, I often drive to groceries where I can park/load. There was talk of a grocery opening in The Jewish, but haven't heard an update.

I think the landromat on Bedford & Bergen closed, there are others on Nostrand, Franklin, Fulton close by.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, and for the welcome! Glad to hear there's some good groceries nearby. And I guess hauling ass to the Crunch on Flatbush will just make my workout all the more effective. How's that for optimism?
