Brooklyn Gay Pride: really, really small?
We had some friends over last night to attend the Pride parade on 7th Ave. Knowing the parade was starting at Bartell Pritchard at 8:30pm, we arrived at 7th and Union at 9:15pm... and were met by the street sweepers cleaning up. How could the parade have marched all the way from Windsor Terrace to Lincoln Place in 45 minutes? Did anyone catch the parade? was it particularly tiny this year?
An aside: Cattyshack attempting to charge a $20 cover for the "after party" was pretty ridiculous. Ginger's and Excelsior had packed em in (with no cover) and we ended up having a great time at Bar Reis.

they were here
they were queer
so where was that parade again? -
Cattyshack is Crappyshack for asking for $20.00!
-
Yeah it was a small parade and I was at the corner of 9th street and 7th ave at about 9;05 and saw the end pass up going down 7th ave so makes sense they would be at Union at time you mentioned.
Hey everyone seemed happy and enjoying the evening so I didn't really take a head count. -
It seems to get smaller every year, not sure why. I've gotten to watch it the last 5 years or so since I work on 7th Ave and I've noticed the change. And a big Booooooo to Cattyshack for having a cover charge, as if they wouldn't have made tons of money on drinks. Ginger's is always packed after the parade.

Very small, I was a bit shocked and feel like my move to PS is a year late. I guess I assumed there was a bigger gay community here than there really is.
On a another note... I was standing outside of caddy shack waiting to get in when a cop car pulled up to warn us that a woman had been attacked at ~ 10:30 PM and we should all be careful.
Agree the 20 bucks was a bit much but didn't know there options. -
Shame on Cattyshack for $20 cover! I guess *that's* why so many people were milling around outside when we were dog-walking .. .. ..
I think much of Brooklyn Queerdom doesn't turn up for Pride (myself included)
The last time I actually went was one of the first ones, and The Rising (now defunct) had a free street party.
Any other details about that attack? I presume they were telling you about it because it was a gay-bashing.
I don't see it on the crime/fire blotter at Gothamist, but I don't think they get everything. Anybody know?

Yes, they did say it was a gay-bashing but didn't give any additional info.
I also tried the police blotter in the Courier-Life but didn't see anything either.
Suprising that folks don't come out for Pride, one of the only times I do go out. -
yeah, i miss The Rising Cafe. when hubby and i first moved to the slope it was one of the earliest places we checked out. they made us feel really welcomed into the community. boo on Cattyshack for sure! do you think they aren't doing well since the move?
and yes, the celebration was smaller this year.
