New to Bed Stuy — Brooklynian

New to Bed Stuy

Hey Everyone
I recently moved to Bed Stuy with my family from what I can only call a far different neighborhood. At first the move was quite a shock and I must admit, a disappointment, but I'm determined to make the most of the neighborhood. I live in what I take to be the northern part of Bed Stuy (Monroe-Gates-Quincy area) smack dab in the middle. Do any of you have suggestions for fun stores/cafes/restaurants and night spots for an 18 year old girl? Also, any tips about train lines, when it is unsafe to walk around, etc.?

  • Welcome to the area. Have a look around these message boards. There are a lot of helpful threads that talk about great places to visit in bed-stuy.
  • Yes, welcome to the area. I would definitely explore as well. There are some great restaurants and cafes nearby. I love the Magnolia Tree Community Center on Lafayette. There is a green space near there.

It's a bit of a walk, but I like Cafe Martino on Myrtle. There is a clothing store on DeKalb and Bedford, D Train Couture I think. Another clothing store on Franklin near Lafayette by the Family Dollar. You can check out Fulton St.
