7th on same block as back to the land
they put up some wooden scafolding on the southwest corner of the block on 7th that has back to the land...same side of the street. anyone know what that will be???
i'm also curious about the building on either side of 7th between union and berkeley. the place next to the park cafe and then across the street from there next to ace supermarket. i'm relatively new to the neighborhood and wondered if people have the scoop on why these buildings just sit there. is anything planned?

The spot on 7th between garfield and carroll used to be Snooky's... a Park Slope institution, and it is soon to open as another Italian restaurant.
I think the building on 7th between union and berkeley is just being gutted and soon to be rented out for 3 times what they were charging pre-renovation. If you can catch the gates open on the construction you can see what a shell of a brownstone with no guts looks like. cool. -
If you're talking about the corner store that used to be a little grocery then it's going to be another realty office. Prudential Douglas Elliman, I think.

the ones on the EAST side, however ..
this spot is the former location of ZuZu's Petals.
the adjacent storefront used to be a restaurant, i think.
A fire destroyed the stores and killed a macaw
that was the store mascot/pet.
ZuZu's has relocated. Property sat for awhile and then was sold.
Im aware of several attached brownstones that also were victims of fire, many years ago. These buildings have sat untouched for quite some time. One can only assume that either the fire caused such severe structural damage that one would have demolish to rebuild
(Kind of a problem with a brownstone that is attached on both sides, ya know ?) or that the cost of gutting still outweighs potential financial gains.
in any event , ive been met wih a suprising and baffling amount of indifference on occasions i've inquired about potentially investing.
I find it odd, but one need look no further then articles in the local papers about the ole Landmark cafe to be similarly baffled. -
The place next to where ZuZu's used to be was an open fruit and vegetable stand. I have no idea why those buildings have stayed boarded up for so long. For quite awhile after the fire you could still smell the watery soot smell when you walked by.

yes you are correct thanks !
in what i consider to be an extremely bizarre circumstance , fire trucks are on 7th at union berkeley right now  .
goin 4 a walk to see wassup -
So apparently we were both right.
Olive Vine Restaurant was between ZuZu's and the fruit/veggie place.
as i type there are quite a few fire trucks and emergency service units there. A hose is draped up over Olive vine to the roof and a ladder is up.
Can smell smoke slightly but see none. -
thanks for all the info. the place on the west side you say is being gutted...i had thought so, but in the 6 months i've been in the neighborhood nothing seems to be done. in fact the windows are still open to the elements. just seems odd. i never see anyone working on it.
as to the former zuzu's/fruits/olive vine...i had seen that there was a sold sign on it, but again nothing for months. no sign of any activity. i hope the fire today wasn't too bad.
sorry to hear about the douglas elliman place opening up but i'm always happy to see a vacant place filled with SOMETHING. especially when i see so many while out on my weekend explorations. -
The space on west side of 7th ave - union/berkeley is being reno'd.
I saw guys in there when i went to scope out this fire thang and have seen them fairly regularly. Just timing i guess.
The fire trucks are gone from ZuZu's. No-one seems to have heard anything but the smell of smoke was noticeable if not strong.
7th / Garfield corner -
the Elliman office has had that space for about a year.
construction was delayed whatever reason but give it a month or so
Ive also heard (dont know this for fact ) that another Real Estate office has been renting the vacant space on 7th btwn carroll garfield across from Key food for at least a few months.(this may have been one of the old little things spots)
There is another vacant place on east side of 7th not far from berkeley that will have some activity in it very soon. -
God help us if we get another (a) real estate office or (b) bank on 7th. Seriously. These things should be prohibited or be required to have a minimum distance between establishments... they totally kill the vitality of the street.
-
I would totally support a minimum distance requirement for these places. How anyone can think we need another realty office in PS is beyond me. Or another bank, cell phone store, or italian restaurant for that matter. I'm referring to the fancy place where Snooky's was, they put up their sign yesterday. Elementi!
