Infuriating Landlord

I have had numerous problems with my landlord but I am now at the breaking point. He let some plumber into my apartment today to reseal the toilet which supposedly is causing a leak downstairs and when I came home, I came home to dirt and oil spread all over my white table, white chairs, white wool rug and white door that I am unable to remove. And the toilet is not working, they need to come back tomorrow. When I called my landlord to find out what happened and how to deal with it, once again his response was, "what do you want me to do about it". Conveniently my refrigerator needs to be looked at and I told him that and he also responded that it was my issue to take care of. He is not responsible for maintaining the refrigerator, which I'm fairly certain is not legal. This is a half rant/half inquiry as to how to deal with some short, crazy testosterone fueled Italian landlord who feel no responsibility for handling what goes on in his apartment. I would really prefer to an apartment that has a reasonable super, but I sort of like where I am. Any suggestions? Words of support?

The best/worst part is that the plumber clearly went through my laundry basket in order to find a towel after ruining my expensive ones I had left hanging in the bathroom. I am feeling severely violated.
