Gun shots or fireworks? — Brooklynian

Gun shots or fireworks?

So is there a huge gun battle going on near where I live (St. John's and Nostrand) or do people just really like their fireworks?

Comments

  • Could be either- although I bet on the fireworks. Kids just can't hold on to them till 7/4.....It'll increase the closer that day gets. Freaked me out for a few years- and I swear, it's really easy to cover up gunshots around this time, cause you can't really distinguish.
  • I heard it.......it was firecrackers......
  • Ha...It was fireworks, we saw them...
  • they were actually really pretty fireworks. i could see them from my apartment. but looked like they were coming more from the propect park direction from what i could tell.
  • I live near st. johns / new york, and there were some serious fire crackers last night. I also mistook them for gunfire, until I looked out the window and saw folks on the street normally, not panicky or interested at all
  • St. Johns / Nostrand, they were LOUD there too last night. I didn't bother sticking my head out though, was pretty sure they were firecrackers...
  • Well fireworks of ANY kind are illegal. You should call the precinct and or 311 when you hear them.

I'm not sure that firecracks are that big of a deal.

    Thoughts?
  • When you can't tell the difference between gun fire and fire works I think it is a big deal!!!
  • I heard them on Park PL but as another post stating, after several yrs I think i got use to the sound.

 Shit, there are all kinds of illegal things that I see in NYC that I wouldn't bother reporting to a precinct. I actually saw someone walk against the light in the crosswalk earlier this week, I damn near freaked the hell out!

I respect your right to call it in to the cops if it in fact bothers you, and feel free to call in jaywalkers and right-turn-on-red'ers too if you need to. However there is a big distance from the idiocy of the "stop snitching" movement, and calling in every minor bullshit thing you see.

You can handle things your way and I'll handle things my way. If that is the case then who ever agrees with you should stop bitching on this board about the quality of life issues. If we keep letting people get away with things that are not right then we are all just going to fall. Its the ignorance of my fellow (B) people that discuss me.
