Brooklyn BBQ
Recently I've had BBQ from the place on like 6th Ave and maybe 16th St., Pioneer BBQ in Red Hook, and last night at Jake's.
Pioneer I thought was excellent, The one on 6th warrents a follow-up visit, and Jake's surprisingly for a place that has been around for years was awful.
What do you guys think of these places. Where do you recommend I try next? What doctor should I see when my arteries start blowing up?

Are you talking about the place next to Kitchen Bar? I believe these are on 6th and 20th St.
I was wondering about it....what did you get there?
Also, has anyone eaten at Kitchen Bar yet? -
6th and 20th that could be it. That one was actually a while ago. The food was good, but I need to go again to really tell you.
What's kitchen bar like? -
I'm not really sure. It's next door to the BBQ place, opened a few months ago. It looks kind of nice inside, but I haven't eaten there yet. Curious though.

Well, I'm going to have to suggest that to my amigo for next week. South Slope is apparantly rollin!

bbq bar, is on 6th ave and 20th st. i definitely recommend the pork bbq, smothered in the vinegar sauce, which is better than the red sauce. the beans on the side are killer. mac and chees is just fine. i haven't had much else there except for the beer, which is always cold. i like the non hip feeling in there. just a neighborhood spot.
kitchen, the lil restaurant right next door, is good, too. when i'm looking for a little something, but not a full gut buster, i'll get the kitchen burger tapas, 3 small burgs., one w/cheddar, one w/feta, one w/swiss. nice. other stuff is good, too. -
I've been to Kitchen Bar twice. I like it. Had those mini burgers once too. Nice prices, too.

The pulled pork sandwiches at BBQ are very good and the atmosphere is very relaxed.
I like the weekend brunch at Kitchenbar. The tapas are also good. I recently ordered the skirt steak sandwich w/ steak fries which was great. -
So is it more bar or restaurant. Would it be a good place to play scrablle, eat a bit, and have a couple of beers?
-
Kitchenbar is more restaurant than bar, but it's pretty informal. BarBQ is more of a bar that happens to also serve food. I could see playing scrabble at either place, but Kitchenbar is a little more upscale.
-
The BBQ place on 6th was disappointing--I've been there twice and the pork was dry and tasteless. What about Applewood? Have you tried them? You might have to bring your own scrabble board

Love Bar BQ, for the pulled pork and brisket. Unlike a lot of BBQ places in NYC, they appear to just season the meat simply and smoke it for a long time, then they serve it unadorned, with sauces on the side. It's what BBQ should be, just very smoky, tender meat served up plain. A lot of NYC "barbecue" might just as well be baked in the oven with barbecue sauce. I haven't had the ribs yet, and the chicken is just OK.
They need to work on their sides, tho, although the beans are good, and the potato salad OK. They need collard greens! And cornbread, although I suppose that's not very authentic. -
i really like the extremely laid-back vibe of Bar BQ. i also LOVE their bourbon list.
i agree with linus, though... i wish they would make a slightly longer list of sides, preferably something GREEN.
finally, i know this is probably heresy in their BBQ neck-of-the-woods (tennesee-style? kansas-city-style? can't remember), but i wish they would add one more choice to their sauce list. the vinegar one and the sweet/spicy ones are good, but sometimes i just like me the thick sweet gooey sauce on my brisket. -

Hmmm....I could have sworn I had collards last time I was there.

And yes, great bourbon and decent beer selection. -

Last I recall, it was slaw, mac & cheese, potato salad and beans, ever since they opened. But I haven't been in a month or two. -
that's right they're a bourbon place, forgot about that.
