MERGED: Best new bars/'raunts in GWH/SSP — Brooklynian

MERGED: Best new bars/'raunts in GWH/SSP

Subject: MERGED: Best new bars/'raunts in GWH/SSP

It's called Quarter, I believe it's in the same spot that another bar was in a few years back. My boyfriend and I were walking back from the concert in the park last night and stopped in. It's a nice little spot. Good beers on tap. Moderately priced. The jukebox looked pretty fantastic. Excited to see what will happen with this place.

  • thanks for the tip. my fiance and I went tonight - they have a good atmosphere going. Also went to Vin Rouge tonight. Very excited about what is happening south of the expressway.
  • Vin Rouge is open? that place is on fifth ave & which street again?
  • Vin Rouge is between 17th and 18th, right across from Eagle Provisions.

They have a nice patio in back.
  • Excellent! seems like that place was taking forever to open. thanks for the report :)
  • Does Vin Rouge have food at all?
  • Just wanted to add that the owner of VIn Rouge is the same as Has Beans...
Also, I saw workers at the spot on 6th and 21st...where the new Pizza place owned by Kitchen Bar is supposed to be. I wonder when that will open?

Since there's been some good dialog on new bars and 'raunts the GWH, SSP and S. Slope, any to add to the list, bad or good?

So far more bars on 5th Ave, new place on 21st and 6th and Vin Rouge?

Tell me whatcha think folks! :)
  • Vin Rouge is nice, extensive wine list. No food until the official opening, which will be July 14th.
  • Does Vin Rouge have food at all?
My understanding is that they will have meat and cheese plates, sort of hors d'oeuvre-y options. No meals.
  • I really like Quarter. Good beers on Tap, nice drink selection, great jukebox.
  • Where is Quarter?
  • What's up with Living Room Lounge?

Seems the owner of the building is giving the brick a wash and new stucco. Any upgrades to the bar?

Or same old "odd interior?" Though a nice bar...

It's around 20th st. and 5th ave, closed on Mondays, which happened to be when I tried to find it  but I hear it's nice.
  • I went to Quarter and Vin Rouge. Vin Rouge did have food already (but yes, only cheese plates/olives/little stuff like that. Quarter was good. I agree on the jukebox.

    I liked both places.
  • Any news on the brick oven pizza place/brew pub on 21st/6th Ave? Same owner as Kitchen Bar, so I have heard.
  • I walked by there, doesn't look like much is happening
  • I've become quite a big fan of Bar B Q lately.
  • Love to stop in, but I say no to the meat, thus the smokieness of the BBQ is a bit of a turn off :(
  • I'm gonna have to check out Quarter. I haven't been out much lately. Any place with a good beer selection and a jukebox that doesnt suck is ok in my book. especially if its only one ave away!
  • Merged the "new bar on 5th Ave & 20th" thread with this one...we all were covering topics at the same time.

post away...far, far away...Now, back to my own, in-house cocktails
  • somehow i can't seem to find Quarter? I was walkin down 5th from Daisy's the other day and looked around that area of the block on 20th St. Do they not have a sign or somethin yet? I'm looking forward to having another bar in easy stumbling distance, especially since I haven't been digging The Living Room much lately.

They had a sign out when I went. It is on the west side of the street just past the corner. It is VERY small, so you may have missed it. I love the tiny-ness though :D And Dave the part owner/bartender is very cool.

    Good luck next time!
  • Quarter is right next to the 24 hour laundry.

And get the "Basil Drink" special. It is Deee-Lish!
  • i was havin a tough time finding it too. then again i was half asleep walking down 5th cause i remembered at 2am on the 5th that we didn't drop off rent yet? that was a pleasent midnight stroll. i'll go find it after work today!
  • there are some green lights hanging above the door. hope that helps!

cool, thanks! i got some friends from LA coming to town friday. perhaps i'll test it out with them after a nice little roof BBQ.
  • Where's the roof BBQ? JK.. But that sounds more exciting than a bar.
  • 4th ave btw 21st and 22nd, come one come all! haha
  • we should have a greenwood heights meet-up at one of these fabulous new bars.
  • I have walked past Quarter but haven't been in--it looks nice, though. I did go to Vin Rouge over the weekend and loved it! The bartender and owner were so nice, the patio is lovely, and the selection of wines was great. I'm so glad this is in our neighborhood.
Also, I hear there's another restaurant set to open on that block, same side as Vin Rouge, later this year.
Has anyone been to the new restaurant/bar Sidecar, up Fifth Ave. toward the expressway?
