A video of a guy stealing my bike tires set to a song. — Brooklynian

A video of a guy stealing my bike tires set to a song.

I had the day off yesterday, so I wrote a song to go with some footage I had of some asshole stealing the tires off my bike last November.

Bonus points if anyone can name the block(s)! It's in PH

FYI the local precinct told me to just hold on to this footage.

  • Dean street?
  • We have a winner!

For a double bonus wonder-point, name the street he turns on.

    6th Ave.

Did you take this video? Not being rude but why didn't you stop him?
  • No way. I would not video tape a guy stealing my bike tires. I would however give a vicious beatdown to a guy stealing my bike tires.

The footage is from neighborhood security cameras that I was able to get a hold of.

P.S. you are the proud owner of a double bonus wonder-point
  • It says that it is from the neighborhood security cam.

    Recreation:

Trainsmoke DeLeon comes home, find his tires gone.

    Trainsmoke DeLeon: Crap.

Trainsmoke DeLeon wonders if he can pull the security cam footage.

    Trainsmoke DeLeon does!

    Musical hilarity ensues.

Or is it more of a tragedy?
  • Precisely. Though in actuality there was about six months in between the pulling the footage and the musical hilarity stages.

    Details.

    - and -

It takes time to heal the pain. :D
  • i hate thieves. man too bad he wasn't caught by you. I would of love to see a beating vid instead ;).

    my camera system sucks.

I had footage of a guy stealing my plants. but it wouldnt take my 2 gig cf card :( to upload. it takes only smaller cards grrr.
  • yeah, hopefully my next video will be a song set to footage of me kicking some guys ass.

sorry to hear about your plants. the guy at the farmer's market looked at me like I was paranoid when I mentioned I'd keep my basil inside so it wouldn't be stolen or vandalized.
  • Wow. That is awful but that video is damn hilarious.. You should win the Utube award....
  • Wow, there was footage and you were able to get a hold of it? That's fortunate.

I love the song, especially when you call out the guy in the white van. From tragegy springs creativity.
  • TIRES?

I mean...how do you get them off without taking off the wheel? And what do you do with them? Ain't no one gonna buy them, you can't smoke crack out of them. You gonna make yourself an imaginary bike or the world's crappiest tire swing?

    I don't get it.

ETA: just watched, you meant wheel set. He sure takes his time.
  • Ha ha. That's awesome. I forwarded it...They forwarded it...Consider me the source of most of your hits.
  • Hey Cool. Thanks for the sympathy/forwarding. I just got back from work and have over 2000 hits and the 39th most viewed video of the day in the english music category.

It makes the grief go down more easily to know I'm not alone. Plus new SBMP fans never hurts 8)
  • Great song. It was worth it. I was entertained. I should give you some moneys toward new wheels.

I'm forwarding this to all of my friends, so at least 4 people will be seeing it.
  • Hey who knew when the topic gets moved it stops updating in the original thread? Not me, but I do now. Its only 10:30am and I've already learned something new.

Maybe we should play this live? Would it work without the video? Because for most shows it's not feasible to have a video for one song projected.

Oh, and I've had a lot of beer since this incident. It helped, obviously, it always helps, but not as much as your guys' empathy and compliments. And please, no more snarkiness, there has been enough pain already.
  • I agree. Less pain, More beer.

Hell yeah, you should play it live.
  • haha so i heard i helped you win $100 last night. i posted your video over on the bike message board that ken frequents. congrats!
  • indeed. your repost is much appreciated. it was a good time, even beyond the fact that i made some cash, so thanks for that. also, thanks to anyone else who posted it around, i've got about 10k hits. not too shabby.

for others, this video took home the prize at Bike Shorts, a monthly screening of short movies about bikes that you can learn about here: http://www.bikeshortfilms.com/
I recommend it to anyone remotely interested in bike culture.
  • :D

I still chuckle every time that I watch it.
  • Brilliant - great job!

However, I am simultaneously impressed by the video quality of the security cameras and appalled by the number of security cameras installed. Christ, it actually is 1984!
  • Thanks livetotravel. I actually had footage from about a dozen camera angles to work with. See I live in the footprint in a Ratner owned building, and instead of thinking of him as a billionaire community wrecker I like to think of him as a creative collaborative partner. Since many of the buildings in the immediate vicinity are his and they all have his cameras he's more like a very thorough neighborhood documentarian, that's what people are forgetting. It's because he loves the neighborhood so much that he's bought all the buildings. So that he may film us, as we are. For better, or for worse.
  • haha! your totally sensible explanation now paints a much clearer picture of Mr Ratner - no doubt a man that will be chronicled by future sociologists!
  • he'll go down in local lore as simply being misunderstood. that is if after the development there remains any cultural continuum in this community.

He's like Andy Warhol without the drug addictions!! Well, that we know of anyway.
