  • Yeah, I think you're thinking of the right place, Rapture. And the place before that was a nice little coffee shop -- well, I thought it was nice, anyway. And they had a little train that ran on a narrow strip of track a foot or so below the ceiling. What Park Slope needs is more good coffee shops and fewer cute, cunning "bistros" that charge $15 for a plate of egg-n-hollandaise brunch slop that would be twice as good, twice as abundant, and half as expensive in a good Greek diner.

ETA: The spousal unit informs me that the coffee shop was called "The Dining Car."
  • While I'm at it, there used to be a big, roomy deli on 7th, near... uh, Union?? Anyway, it was an old-style Jewish delicatessen; I remember fondly getting kasha varnishkes there, and drinking a Cel-Ray with my fried chicken. And strangely, they had really great fried chicken. And I remember it being run by Asians -- or at least staffed by Asians. And I remember they had those weird big-head celebrity caricature statues of Ralph Kramden, the 3 Stooges, and such types. This must've been 15 years ago, and I'm trying to remember the name of the place. Any old-timers remember?

When the place that now houses Spirito on 9th between 4th & 5th was vacant, I had a tragic hope that someone might open up a good Jewish deli there, where I could stop for coffee & a bagel on the way to the R and for BBQ chicken and potato salad on the way home. I think the neighborhood is crying out for such a place. 'Cause I think we're fixed now for mediocre Thai, mediocre Peruvian, and ill-conceived Japanese "fusion," thanks.
  • I think it's a shame that Minnow didn't make it--I thought BB was the same owner as Minnow, making the same mistake that Max & Moritz did (plowing all his money into Steinhopf and killing M&M). Good restaurants on 7th Ave have always been few & far between. I remember when M&M was the only decent place on 7th--the entire stretch. I've always been amazed at how such awful places can stay open on this Ave.

  • Never been to BBB (what with hearing too many bad reviews and the health inspections) but.... it strikes me odd that you would dredge up a thread (two different times) from many months ago. Especially given that this month's health inspection wasn't particularly bad. I wonder why.

I didn't see a current report onBB.. did I miss it? Misread something?
Yeah does seem a little weird to pull up this old thread 2 times. Only legit reason I can come up with.. Good posting involved checking archives first to see if a thread already exists so as to not duplicate.

We are a suspicious group here sometimes (my self included) LOl.
